💙June is Dysphagia Awareness Month 💙

Dysphagia affects the ability to safely chew and swallow food or liquids, and can impact nutrition, hydration, and quality of life.

Many 6-year-olds are beginning to:
• Speak clearly and confidently in conversations
• Tell organized stories with details and sequence
• Understand jokes, simple humor, and figurative language
• Follow multi-step directions independently
• Ask and answer more complex questions
• Use reading and writing skills alongside spoken language
• Participate in classroom discussions and peer conversations

Strong speech and language skills support success in reading, learning, friendships, and self-confidence both at school and at home. 💛

🎉 Help us congratulate Katie Chavira, M.S. CCC-SLP on an incredible accomplishment! 🎉

Katie has officially completed her Clinical Fellowship Year and is now fully licensed in both Colorado and Nebraska, in addition to earning her American Speech-Language-Hearing Association CCC-SLP certification — a huge milestone in her speech-language pathology career! 👏💙

Katie has been such an important and wonderful addition to the RRS team, not only providing exceptional care and support to our patients as a wonderful SLP, but also helping behind the scenes with the marketing side of RRS. Her dedication, creativity, and compassion make a difference every single day.

By age 5, communication skills are becoming stronger, clearer, and more independent! 🗣️🌟

Many 5-year-olds are beginning to:
• Speak clearly and be understood almost all of the time
• Tell detailed stories and stay on topic
• Use complete sentences with correct grammar
• Understand and follow longer directions
• Answer questions about time, sequence, and events
• Recognize some letters, sounds, and rhyming words
• Participate in conversations with peers and adults confidently

These skills are important for kindergarten readiness, learning, social interactions, and building confidence in the classroom and beyond! 📚💛
