🚨 THYROID TRUTH BOMB: If your doctor is only checking your TSH, you are NOT getting the full picture of your thyroid function.
TSH stands for thyroid-stimulating hormone—and here’s the important part: TSH is made by your pituitary gland in your brain, not your thyroid. It is essentially the signal telling your thyroid how much hormone your body needs.
So when I hear women say, “My doctor checked my thyroid and said everything looks normal,” and I find out the only marker tested was TSH… 😩
Ladies, we need to look deeper.
A more comprehensive thyroid evaluation may include:
✨ TSH
✨ Free T4
✨ Free T3
✨ Thyroid antibodies — TPO + TgAb
Why does this matter?
Your thyroid is deeply connected to your metabolism, energy, menstrual cycle, fertility, body temperature, digestion, mood, hair growth, and overall hormone health.
Some of the most common times I see thyroid dysfunction or changing thyroid needs in women are:
• Postpartum
• Periods of prolonged or intense stress
• Perimenopause
If you’re experiencing fatigue, unexplained weight changes, hair loss, feeling cold, constipation, cycle changes, brain fog, or fertility struggles, a “normal” TSH doesn’t necessarily answer every question.
At Roots Wholistic Health, we offer comprehensive thyroid testing because we specialize in women’s hormones—and understanding thyroid function can be an important piece of understanding the bigger hormonal picture.
Your labs shouldn’t just say “normal.”
They should help us understand what your body is actually doing. 🤍
