I am sharing for educational purposes. Always seek the LORD yourself for direction in all that you do and lean not on your own understanding.
If people share warnings I appreciate it very much when they also share good alternatives so I copied and pasted that here:
Non-yoga Pilates focuses on core strength and mobility, resistance band stretches gently improve flexibility, and physical therapy stretches are designed to heal and protect the body. There are even stretching dance classes such as Essentrics, which combine flowing movement with safe muscle lengthening exercises. These options provide the benefits of improved strength, balance, and flexibility without exposing your mind and spirit to the dangers of pagan ritual.
Yoga is not “just stretching.” It’s an entry point for a many women into Hinduism, paganism, New Age, and idolatry.
Before God saved me, I practiced yoga almost daily for over 20 years. One of my best friends in the new age owned a popular yoga studio. I lectured at two major yoga schools.
My point is that I was all-in. But then God saved me and opened my eyes to the spiritual deception behind yoga. I got rid of my yoga mats that day and I haven’t looked back. I now do non-yoga Pilates stretching every day instead.
Many women initially try yoga for health, stress relief, muscle toning, or flexibility. Yet within months, testimonies show that these women remain in yoga classes not for the stretches but for the spirituality.
Research from Dr. Candy Gunther Brown and my own surveys of ex-new agers confirms that yoga is a spiritual worship practice that entices women into Hinduism and idolatry.
I had never heard of Ganesh, Lakshmi, or any of the other Hindu deities until I started taking yoga classes. Within a few months, I had statues and artwork of these deities in my house, and I was regrettably praying to them for favors before I was saved. Now I realize they were demons disguised as helpful deities.
Consider the warrior poses, part of the Sun Salutation series of every yoga class. These are bodily contortions created to glorify the Hindu warrior deity Virabhadra, making your body into a graven image of a false god. The Warrior Poses are acting out a violent Hindu deity story.
If yoga is “just stretching,” why do teachers constantly walk around correcting postures? No one does that in a simple stretch class. These movements are unnatural because they’re designed for ritual worship of mimicking deities with your body.
And then there’s the chanting in yoga classes: “Namaste” means “The god within me bows to the god within you.” “Om” invokes the Hindu creation theology of universal consciousness. These are blasphemous prayers to pagan gods.
Tragically, many public schools are coaching children to say these Hindu Sanskrit chants as part of the yoga classes in schools that don’t allow Christian prayers.
Some argue from 1 Corinthians 8 and 10 that because meat sacrificed to idols could be eaten, yoga can be redeemed. Yet the Bible never says that the pagan temple rituals or idol worship could be redeemed. The meat itself was neutral, but the pagan worship was not. Yoga is the ritual, not the meat and to compare yoga to food is to twist Scripture.
This passage also says that the apostle Paul would never eat or drink anything that could cause a brother to stumble. Well, if someone sees a professing Christian woman with a yoga mat under her arm, it could cause someone to stumble into a yoga studio, and into idolatry.
There’s no such thing as holy yoga or Christian yoga. Those are oxymorons. Just like an Ouija board could never be redeemed, no matter how many Bible verses are pasted on it, pagan practices can’t be redeemed.
Yes, God knows your heart, and any woman who knowingly practices the idolatry of yoga is in rebellion. Please don’t try to justify pagan practices by saying that you have “good intentions.“
“Christian yoga” is syncretism. It mixes the worship of false gods with the worship of Christ, yet Scripture says, ‘You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons’ (1 Corinthians 10:21).
You don’t see other sports calling themselves “Christian,“ only yoga, because deep down everyone knows that it’s not Christian. It’s an attempt to justify a pagan practice that feels good, but does not belong in Christian‘s life.
There are ways to stretch that don’t involve yoga asanas or spiritual baggage.
God never calls His people to sanctify idol worship practices. Yoga is a counterfeit spirituality that entangles women, but Christ offers true rest and peace.
