Bernice Lovgren

age 101, of Crivitz, passed away peacefully July 26, 2026. She was born in Crivitz on May 20, 1925; daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Krzych) Tomaszewski. Bernice graduated from Crivitz High School before moving to Milwaukee, where she began her career with Johnson Controls. She remained with the company until her retirement, taking great pride in her work and being known for her strong work ethic. Bernice also enjoyed frequent trips to the casino and loved spending time outdoors, especially observing deer and the abundant wildlife around her.

Bernice is survived by her siblings: Richard (Karen) Tomaszewski of Crivitz and MaryAnn Woracheck of Muskego. She was preceded in death by her husband, Justis; infant son, Jerry; and siblings: Joe, Harry, Walter, Eleanor, Clara and Estelle.

Visitation will be on Saturday August 15, 2026, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Crivitz from 10am until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11am. Father David Schmidt is officiating. Burial will be in the St. Mary Cemetery.

Geneva “Genie” Roedig

age 87, formerly of Silver Cliff, passed away peacefully Friday, July 24, 2026, at Rennes Health & Rehab Center-West. She was born on September 25, 1938, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Melvin and Velma (Thompkins) Maule. In 1958, Genie was united in marriage to Charles Roedig, and they remained very happily married for 68 years. Together they shared a love of traveling, gardening, attending tractor shows and searching for good antiques.

Genie enjoyed fishing, canoeing, and spending time on the water, as well as hiking through the woods and taking in the beauty and peacefulness of the wilderness. She also enjoyed crafts, including crocheting many beautiful blankets, and was active in their church. Family was very important to Genie and there are fond memories of her taking her kids swimming, hunting rabbits and raising beagles.

Genie's survived by her three children: Bruce (Jill), Susie, and Curtis Roedig; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and brothers: Ervin (Irene) and Farrell (Diane) Maule. She was preceded in death by her husband Charlie on January 21st of this year; and her brothers Dale & Cliff and sisters Ann & Beulah.

Visitation will be on Saturday August 8, 2026, at Roubal Funeral Home in Wausaukee from 10am until the time of her Memorial Service at 11am. Pastor Lin Wittmann is officiating. Burial will be in the Silver Cliff Cemetery.

Gerald “Jerry” Howarth

age 85, of Crivitz, passed away peacefully July 28, 2026, at Rennes Health & Rehab –East. He was born in Marinette on May 22, 1941; son of the late Milo and Rose (Fugate) Howarth. Jerry graduated from Wausaukee High School in 1959. In 1961, he was united in marriage to the former Phyllis Baker. He enlisted in the United States Army, where he proudly served his country honorably for three years. Throughout his working years, Jerry held a variety of jobs before beginning his career at Chadwicks Manufacturing in Coleman, where he learned the skill of drafting.

Jerry enjoyed many of life’s simple pleasures, including hunting, fishing, woodworking, and camping. He especially looked forward to spending time at deer camp, creating cherished memories and enjoying the outdoors.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Phyllis; three children: Joy Weber, Wendy (Tim) Born, and Jay (Althea) Howarth Sr.; 9 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and a sister, Kelly. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Peggy; and two siblings: Jeanie Tremble and Loren Howarth.

Visitation will be on Monday August 3, 2026, at Roubal Funeral Home in Wausaukee from 9am until 11am. Burial service with full military honors provided by the Crivitz American Legion and VFW will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery-Middle Inlet.

William “Bill” Benner II

age 70, of Amberg, passed away from natural causes on Sunday, July 19, 2026. He was born in Appleton on March 15, 1956; son of the late William and Irene (McDonald) Benner I. Bill proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army for 17 years. He enlisted in 1978, completing basic training before attending advanced training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. He was then stationed in Germany, where he served as a Lance Missile Crewman working with nuclear weapons systems. Following that assignment, Bill returned to Fort Sill to train in the Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS). After completing his training, he was reassigned to Germany; where he instructed fellow soldiers on the MLRS system. His military career also took him to Fort Hood, Texas, followed by deployment to the Persian Gulf, and later to Korea, where he served on border patrol. Following his honorable discharge, he drove semi for several companies until he was hire in 2001 by Blackwell Job Corps. While at Job Corps he helped students with disciplinary and behavioral problems. He retired from Blackwell Job Corps earlier this year.

Outside of his military service, Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on fi****ms and automobiles, camping, playing pool, watching the Green Bay Packers, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune, John Wayne movies, anything involving history and training his labradors and above all, spending quality time with his family and friends.

Bill is survived by his wife Martha; son, William (Heather Gallino) Benner III; grandson, Clayton Benner; first wife, Linda; seven siblings: Bruce (Luz) Benner, Brian (Joy) Benner, Kevin (Barb) Benner, Gary (Colleen) Benner, Tommy (Becky) Benner, Colleen (Jerry) Winkler, and Kathy (Lyon) Dilley; four-legged companion, Queens Royal Flush “Queenie”; and further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert; daughter, Toyna; brother, Keith; and grandparents.

Visitation will be 12 (noon) until 2:00pm on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Roubal Funeral Home. Burial will take place afterwards at the Amberg Cemetery with full military honors.

Harold Lynn Patz

age 73, of Dunbar, WI, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 12, 2026.

He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 52 years, Joan, his seven children: Daniel Patz (Molly), Janelle Johnson (Jason), Katie Bruno (Chris), April Mohler (Scott), Matthew Patz (Kelsey), Marco Patz (Kimberly), and Antonio Patz (Mallory), and his siblings, Arlene Sailer, LaVerne Grosse (Harold), Howard Patz, Eleanore Gusick, and Darrell Patz (Jeannie) and many nieces and nephews. Harold was a devoted Pappy to Grace, Paul (Emma), Elijah (Chaya), Barnabas, Mary, Katy, Paul, Preston, Kianna, Amos, Malachi, Mamie, Luke, Simon, Elliot, Noah, Lucy, Charlotte, George, Clementine, Matthew, Micah, Kaiya, Gianna, Marco David, and soon to be baby girl, and great-grandchildren Eleanor and Hazel.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mamie Patz, his brother Clifford Patz, brothers-in-law Harold Sailer and Roger Gusick, and sisters-in-law Valerie Patz and Nancy Patz.

Harold was born March 17, 1953 in Marinette, WI. He graduated from Coleman High School in 1971 and from the Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music in 1974. As a growing boy and young man, Harold enjoyed snowmobiling, began his life-long pursuit to document life with a video camera, and found joy in music and singing.

Although he worked at the family business as a teenager, his father Paul envisioned Harold living and working at the family’s new ministry up north - Northland camp and college. This calling would shape the rest of Harold’s life.

From their youth, Harold’s leading lady was Joan (Salesky) Patz - his Doris Day. She was “the cats.” Once he convinced her they belonged together, Harold married the love of his life on June 8, 1974 at First Baptist Church in Pound, WI. They were Pioneers with many others in those early days at Northland as they watched the camp and college grow. In 1987 they built their family home in Dunbar, where they raised their seven children.

Harold served in many roles at Northland - administration, business office, haywagon driver, even teaching - and after his retirement, he was a volunteer lawn mower on the campus. He was also a founding board member at Northland Baptist Bible College (later, Northland International University) and served in that capacity until the school closed in 2015. He is most remembered for his position working with students with financial needs, many of whom remember him for the prayerful love and care he provided in this role.

He was also a founding member of Faith Baptist Church in Beecher where he served as a deacon for many years and a Sunday school teacher for over 35 years. Harold taught 4th–6th grade boys and Joan taught the girls. A whole generation of boys remembers the songs he taught them in that class. In his later years, he and Joan were members of Mercy Church where he loved and encouraged the pastors for their faithful gospel ministry in the area.

Throughout his life, Harold loved raising goats and bunnies, growing beautiful flowers, The Andy Griffith Show, the Packers, snowmobiling, gardening, talking to strangers, embarrassing his children, telling dad jokes, rough-housing his grandchildren, telling Joey stories to children, and encouraging missionaries. He will also be remembered for pranking people with his toupee, his love of pie and ice cream (please warm it up), and leaving his children with thousands of hours of home movies. Above all, he loved his family and his Lord. He was utterly devoted to his wife, Joan, and delighted in anything they did together. He loved his Lord Jesus Christ, and through all of the seasons of his life you could always find him early in the morning reading his Bible and praying with Joan and any kids or grandkids who were visiting.

Harold left a legacy of humility, encouragement, sacrifice, humor, and love for the Good News of Jesus Christ for the glory of God.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 25 at Redemption Hill Church in Kingsford, MI. Visitation will be at 9:30AM with a service at 11:00AM. A livestream of the service will be provided.

Lloyd Phillip Backhaus

age 86, of Amberg, WI went peacefully with the Lord on Saturday, July 18th, 2026, with his loving wife and children by his side. Born August 29, 1939 to Gilbert and Alice K. Klemann (Klemann) Backhaus in Oconomowoc, WI. Lloyd attended Amberg Public School and graduated with the Class of 1957. On June 20, 1959, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Marjorie Hilsabeck, at Grace Lutheran Church in Pembine, Wisconsin. Together they shared 67 wonderful years of marriage, built a life filled with love in Amberg, and raised their four children: Brenda, Jeffrey, Randall, and Debra.

Throughout his career, Lloyd worked for the Town of Amberg, Smeester Brothers, Patty Jean Logging, and dedicated 40 years of service to GAF in Pembine before retiring. Outside of work, he was an avid outdoorsman who found great joy in hunting and fishing. His hunting adventures took him to British Columbia, Ontario, Montana, and Colorado. One of his proudest accomplishments was harvesting a 1,100-pound moose in northern British Columbia with an impressive 61-inch rack.

Retirement brought new adventures for Lloyd and Marjorie. They purchased a boat and a camper, creating countless cherished memories while taking their grandchildren on outings. They also enjoyed traveling together, including a memorable 23-day cruise and trips to Italy, Spain, Alaska, Hawaii, and many other destinations. Lloyd treasured the time spent exploring the world alongside his beloved wife and family.

Lloyd is survived by his loving and caring wife, Marjorie (Hilsabeck) Backhaus; two sons, Jeffrey (Judy) Backhaus and Randall Backhaus; daughter, Debra (Joe) Neuburg; six grandchildren: Raegan, Eddie, Amanda, Alaina, Kendra, and Kaila; and further survived by 10 great grandchildren. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert J. and Alice Backhaus; parents-in-law, Howard and Mildred Hilsabeck; also a brother, Gilbert A. Backhaus; and a daughter, Brenda (Brad Eddy).

Edward A. Rollo

age 85, of Wausaukee, died Monday July 13, 2026, at NewCare Convalescent Center in Crivitz. He was born in Wausaukee on April 25, 1941; son of the late Anton and Helen (Cunningham) Rollo. Ed graduated from Wausaukee High School before honorably serving his country in the United States Air Force. Following his military service, he began his career with the Marinette County Sheriff's Department as a patrol officer. In 1967, he joined Wisconsin Public Service, where he worked his way to the position of Journeyman Lineman and Lead Lineman.

Later, Ed co-owned Rollo's Supper Club in Wausaukee, where he enjoyed bartending and creating a welcoming, fun atmosphere for everyone who walked through the door. Ed was united in marriage to Betty in 1991; the couple spent over 34 years together. He also co-owned Eagle Electric, remaining involved in the business until 1996.

A dedicated and hardworking man throughout his life, Ed was always busy putting his many talents to use. He was a skilled carpenter who built countless items, including filing cabinets, mirrors, waterbeds, and shadow boxes. In his spare time, he found great enjoyment in watching wildlife and appreciating the outdoors.

Ed is survived by his loving wife, Betty; children: Cory (Elisa) Rollo, Matt (Jodi) Rollo and step-son, Dennis (Cheri) Whitton; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his step-son, Chris.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday July 28, 2026, at Roubal Funeral Home from 9am until the time of Ed’s service at 11am. Pastor Gene Wickman will officiate. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery-Wausaukee with full military honors. A lunch is planned at the Wausaukee Village Hall.

Zachary “Zack” Jones

age 41, of Argonne passed away unexpectedly at home on June 25, 2026, from natural causes. He was born in Iron Mountain, Michigan on February 4, 1985; son of Dean and Linda (Stec) Jones. He graduated from Goodman-Armstrong Creek High School with the Class of 2003 and immediately enlisted in the United States Army. During his 6 years and 5 months of honorable service, he completed three tours of duty in Iraq, serving primarily as an Army tanker. Serving his country alongside his brothers in arms was one of his greatest honors and a role he deeply cherished.

Outside of his military service, Zack found joy in fishing and hunting, metal detecting with his dad, and enjoying his mother's homemade goulash and his grandpa's famous beans. He took great pride in maintaining a meticulously kept lawn and was a dedicated Ford truck enthusiast. Above all else, Zack's greatest joy in life was the love he shared with his brothers, Darren and Austen, who meant the world to him.

Zack is survived by his parents: Dean and Linda Jones; brothers: Darren (Brandi) Jones and Austen (Crystal) Jones; Maternal grandmother, Mary Stec; Paternal grandmother, Donna Lewis; aunts and uncles: Edward (Jenny), Jill (Bill), Matt (Betsy), Vince, Dianne (significant other, Bruce), Tom (significant other, Barb), Carol (John), Connie (Don) and Greg (Paula); nieces and nephews; extended family; friends; and his 4-legged buddies, Rocky and Nitro. He was preceded in death by Grandfathers: Norman, Bill, and Walter; and Grandmother, Betsy.

Visitation will be on Saturday July 11, 2026, at the Armstrong Creek Community Center in Armstrong Creek from 10am until the time of his service at 12pm (noon). Father Anil Polumari will preside. Full military honors will be accorded following the service. A luncheon will follow.

Barbara A. Earney

age 86 of Wausaukee, passed away peacefully Tuesday June 16, 2026, at Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area. She was born in Wausaukee, WI on June 9, 1940, on Thompson road at the family home; daughter of the late John and Anna (Czech) Wielock. After her family relocated first to Chicago and later to Cicero, Illinois, she met the love of her life, Victor. The couple was united in marriage in 1958 in Corinth, Mississippi, and made their home in Cicero, Illinois and were blessed with two children, Vincent and Linda. Barbara devoted many years to being a homemaker before beginning her career with Speedway/Thor Power Tool Company and later at Madigan’s Clothing Distribution Center. Following her move to Brookfield, Illinois, she retired and lovingly cared for her two grandsons, traveling 44 miles each day, rain or shine, for nearly ten years.

She eventually returned to Wausaukee, where she found great joy in her new home and the simple pleasures of life. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and taking trips to the casino with her brother-in-law, Tate, while creating countless cherished memories with family and friends. Barbara was known for her gift of conversation and especially loved talking on the phone, watching her favorite soap operas, visiting the casino, and spending quality time socializing with those she held dear.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Victor; daughter, Linda (Chris) Cocanig; cherished grandsons and their wives: Alexander (Abbie) and Eric (Emily); siblings: Patricia Patrick and Veronica (Dennis) Vrany; brother-in-law, Nathaniel Olive; and many nieces, nephews and the grandpups, Brewer and Moxxie. She was preceded in death by her son, Vincent; sister, Frances Olive; and brothers-in-law, Tate Earney and Charles Patrick

Visitation is Saturday June 20, 2026, at Roubal Funeral Home from 10am until 11:40am with Mass at St. Augustine Catholic Church at 12:00 p.m.(noon). Father Ben Johnson is officiating. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Wausaukee.

Jerry L. Unger

age 82, of Greenfield, died peacefully at Horizon Home Care and Hospice in Mequon on June 10, 2026. He was born in McCook, Nebraska on March 16, 1944; son of the late Elmer and Edna (Dinnell) Unger. Jerry proudly served in the United States Army, enlisting in 1962 and receiving an honorable discharge in 1965. On February 28, 1971, he was united in marriage to the love of his life Mary Lanich. Together, they operated Arbor Tree Service in Milwaukee as a side business alongside their primary employment for approximately 34 years.

Jerry was exceptionally skilled and resourceful, with extensive knowledge of carpentry, electrical work, and welding. He had a remarkable ability to repair or build just about anything he set his mind to. He also enjoyed a good cup of coffee and rarely passed up an opportunity to savor one. Above all, Jerry had a deep appreciation for nature and found great joy in the outdoors.

Jerry is survived by his son, Scott William Unger; and sister, Carla. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; and brothers: Norman and Donald.

Graveside burial service will be held Tuesday June 16, 2026, in Evergreen Cemetery, Wausaukee at 10am with Pastor Gene Wickman officiating. Also, full military honors will be presented by the Crivitz American Legion Post #413 and VFW Post #2063.
