The only truth in this video is that, in order to bill to your insurance, you need a mental health diagnosis.
Everything else is false:
1. A license is not only needed to bill insurance. It is needed for protection for clients and therapists.
2. I have never come across an insurance that limits you to only 6 sessions. If anything, that would be EAP (Employee Assistance Program) sessions, which are a set number of sessions offered through your employer that are completely covered for you. But after those sessions are done, you can continue therapy with your normal insurance benefits.
I felt like it was important to comment on this because misinformed messages like these are dangerous. Just because someone calls themselves Doctor or a "psychology expert" (not sure what that even is, but anyyyyways) does not mean they are a legitimate source for mental health care.
Even when someone is positioning themselves as a coach, coaches should not be treating mental health conditions. This is a clear distinction between coaches and therapists. Even if a therapist is also a coach, they should not be treating mental health conditions with their coaching clients.
Please do your homework before working with anyone to help you with your mental health and even when getting information from people/pages online ❤
