🇺🇸 Not everyone experiences the Fourth of July the same way. And that’s okay.
If this weekend feels difficult instead of joyful, we see you.
For many people, this holiday is filled with family, cookouts, fireworks, and celebration.
For others—including many veterans, service members, first responders, healthcare professionals, and trauma survivors—it can bring anxiety, hypervigilance, painful memories, or the simple goal of just making it through the day.
You don’t have to explain why fireworks feel different.
You don’t have to force yourself to enjoy something that your nervous system experiences as overwhelming.
And you don’t have to feel guilty for choosing quiet over celebration.
If someone you care about struggles this time of year, one of the greatest gifts you can offer is understanding—not questions, not pressure, just compassion.
Trauma changes the way the brain and body respond to reminders of past experiences. Healing doesn’t mean you “should be over it.” It means learning how to care for yourself with patience and kindness.
Whether you’re celebrating with friends or spending tonight in a quiet room with headphones and your dog beside you, your experience is valid.
To everyone carrying invisible wounds this Fourth of July: we see you, we appreciate you, and you don’t have to go through it alone.
❤️ Wishing everyone a safe, peaceful, and meaningful Independence Day.
