Little Tony Robbins to get started here.

Getting started in the hardest part.

I’m talking with some girlfriends about joining an exercise program. We have a group chat and are already discussing the early morning options, the sore muscles after and when we can go together.

Getting started is the hardest part.
Once momentum takes over having a place for continuous support is key to get over the hardest parts.

So are results.

I’m starting up the Tidy Tribe again for 2027 because having a place for support is key for success.

Community is the balm for friction and women especially love to support each other.

Last Tribes we had women joking about DECORATING the inside of their fridges. Yes, it’s a thing!

They didn’t do it to my knowledge, they did fill boxes and bags, clear rooms and set up offices and one lady can’t go to bed with dishes undone anymore! She wakes up to a clean kitchen every morning.

We had support for life in general as they made choices and cleared and found treasures.

Airline cards. Do they even have these anymore?

Eastern was an airline from 1026-1991. They started as a mail carrier service along the east coast.

These cards are a slice of history and yes, they were kept. They reminded my client of a past job she liked.

Keeping these cards reminds her of a chapter of youth and travel and possibilities.

She use them for games still. So they made the keep cut.

This week I helped a woman start downsizing.

We moved through the living
room and found games and books.

This book caught my attention.

As women, we are told by society we are not good enough as we are.

We are too short/tall

We are to soft/hard

We are too blonde/brunette

We are too loud/quiet

We can’t win.

Then this literary work shows up.

I like where Charla is thinking-to help.
It seems to miss the mark-I’d like to see “How to never feel less than again”

That clutter that’s collected?

Clutter is a season, how you were. It’s not how you need to stay. It may not even be who you are now. It might just be a reminder of what was.

Sort the clutter.

Keep what is useful and you love.

Consider where to take the things you’re ready to let go of

Maybe a thrift store so someone else can feel better too?

Maybe a charity that speaks to your heart?

You’re worth so much more than these slightly subtle or not so subtle messages we hear of guilt and shame.

Honor your layers, don’t worry about looking fat and live happy!

Some days our stuff makes us lay down and have this look.

Decluttering opens us up to look at our lives. What if we put self judgment to the side just for a while and honored the journey that got us here?

If you want to pick up the self judgement again after-that is an option. So is letting it rot on the side of the road.

Your things tell the story of your life. That story is rich with history.

If that part needs to go live somewhere else-without guilt or shame, let it go!

Need to smash the China from the marriage to “that man”? Do it!

Prefer to bless a woman starting a new chapter who needs dishes? Do it!

There isn’t a wrong answer. Do what feels right.

Not ready to smash or donate?
Maybe sell them? Consign or use one of the apps.

Make room for a new relationship and let go of the feelings that hurt/don’t support the way you want to live/weigh you down.

You’re worth it.

When discussing layers, I refer to a cabbage more than an onion.

Why?

A cabbage doesn’t make you cry or sting your eyes.

A cabbage is more like real life. When you pull the easy layers back-those outer layers are fairly easy to remove. Get to the inner layers and it’s more like a cabbage.

Stay with me here… some layers when you pull them back you get a lot of the leaf and it exposes a lot of the underlying layers. Some layers of cabbage are so tightly packed together, you get bits or pieces of a leaf. And that shows a little of the underlying layers.

Peeling the big layer shows more to work on, the smaller peel back pieces show only small amounts.

They each expose new layers.

Some layers need more work with your finger to get them loose. Some pull away easily.

Some layers are thick and some are thick only on part of it. Some are thin and some are larger than others.

When we think of a cabbage we think of food. And our personal layers feed us stories. The cabbage layers are highly nutritious.
In Egyptian times cabbage was reserved for royalty.

It’s also considered a vegetable for prosperity. It’s green with the significance of love, money and grounding.

It’s grows in harsh environments.

It’s a hardy food. It’s versatile.

Next time you consider pulling back a layer and think of an onion, reconsider and try a cabbage. 🥬

While decluttering, you can find yourself in a layer. Breathe. Let the feelings rise and flow. Then decide how to honor it.

Toss in the trash? That’s okay.
Smash in the outside bin? Make some noise sister!
Give to a charity? Great way to let it live on.
Sell it for some cash? Get some bonus out of it.

There isn’t a wrong answer.

It’s been almost 5 months since I stood on the red dot 🔴 and gave a TEDx talk about clutter.

It was an honor to have been selected for hundreds of applicants. There might have been speakers with more experience and a deeper well of reach.
The curation team decided my topic was worthy. Of course I knew my topic was-I have seen the inside of homes for (closing in on) two decades. I have seen how we live “behind closed doors”.

I have seen the stresses of life piles high on the “other side of the bed”, in the corner of the living room and stuffed so solidly behind closed doors-they no longer open freely or fully.

What You Are Looking For Is Buried Under Your Clutter is a journal designed to create awareness for change. It gives prompts to look at things differently. It gives prompts to address different versions of clutter in small bites.

Change is best in small chunks. It’s how habits are formed and new ones created. It moves the needle comfortably.

If you’re ready for positive changes in your life, create physical space for it. This helps.

Clearing out your pantry?

Your local food pantries are excited to get the things you are considering tossing.

Today our expiration date reading abilities were used to help our community.

Contact your local banks and see what they need.
At Nourish Up in Charlotte, they need canned fruits, dried beans, cereals, crackers, rice and snacks.

They take cans that are less then a year old, cereals less then a few months expired.

Have some unopened things you haven’t used or won’t use? Have too many of something? Consider helping the community AND keeping more out of the landfill!

Make some pantry space and help others-that’s a win win!

The work flows on the same cadences.

And on occasion, we have the opportunity to take in some beautiful views.

Having time to lift your head and eyes to take in the majesty of our world is always appreciated.

It’s a visual break from the chaos we walk into and the chaos we create.

Decluttering can be heavy and it can be draining. Making moments to pause, breathe and appreciate what’s around us helps the focus and
energy.

Be sure you make time when digging in for a restorative pause.
