NEW BLOG: Burnout Is Not a Weakness: Why Intelligent, Resilient People Burn Out
Have you ever wondered what is wrong with you because you burned out, even though you were smart, driven and resilient?
Nothing is wrong with you. I want to tell you about the day after I resigned from my last job. I had no income and 60 more days of work, and I felt lighter than I had in years.
I was top of my class, a scholarship medical student, a debater. I grew up with struggle and came through it. I have never had depression or anxiety. And I still burned out.
What I finally understood is that my coping mechanism was pleasing people who were never going to be pleased. I was told my numbers weren't enough, no matter how hard I worked. I stopped eating well, stopped moving, lost sleep, and slowly lost myself. I forgot why I became a doctor.
Burnout wasn't a verdict on my strength. It was a signal. And letting go of that approval felt like taking off shackles made of gold.
I'm sharing the full story, plus the one question I want you to carry with you: who in your life accepts you as you are, and who needs you to conform?
If you have spent years trying to be "good enough" for people who never asked who you really are, I see you. When you're ready, tell me in the comments which part felt like your story. Comment BURNOUT if you'd like it, or read it here:
