Academy for Addiction and Mental Health Nutrition

Academy for Addiction and Mental Health Nutrition Learn how amino acids, diet, and critical nutritional co-factors play key roles in reducing depression, anxiety, violence, insomnia, cravings and relapse.

Our Mission is to teach clinicians and treatment providers how to reduce relapse and improve the quality of recovery by using nutrient therapy and diet to effectively address the biochemical aspects of addiction and mood/behavioral disorders. WE HAVE ONLINE CLASSES. What Makes Us So Unique? Many psychotherapists, psychiatrists and addiction counselors are aware of the vital role biochemical and nu

trient imbalances play in the etiology and maintenance of substance use and mental health disorders. However, we often don’t have the skills or confidence to effectively approach these issues with our clients, without resorting to medication. Very often clients leave treatment on more medication than when they started. To meet this need, The Academy for Addiction and Mental Health Nutrition was created. We believe that many of these issues can be effectively addressed without the use of medication, simply by accurately feeding the starving brain, and identifying and actually treating the other underlying biochemical drivers of these disorders. The Academy is currently offering two online programs for the public. The purpose of these programs are to thoroughly train mental health and addiction counselors in these skills. Graduates will be able to identify which client symptoms are due to biochemical imbalances, and to either empower their clients with the tools necessary to effectively address their own imbalances using diet changes and over-the counter supplements; or make the appropriate referral. Could the habits you use for relief be a sign that your brain and body need more support?

In this episode of Power Up Recovery with Nutrition, Christina Veselak sits down with Dr. Cindy, a Board Certified Chiropractic Internist, Nutritionist, author, and wellness leader.

Drawing from her personal journey through Hodgkin’s lymphoma and her clinical experience, Dr. Howard explores how nutrition, gut health, food sensitivities, nutrient deficiencies, and mindset can influence mood, cravings, brain function, and addiction recovery.

Together, they discuss:

• How addictive patterns can begin with a search for relief
• The connection between neurotransmitters, mood, and cravings
• Why gut health and digestion matter for brain health
• How food sensitivities may affect anxiety, depression, and brain fog
• The role of micronutrients, amino acids, and personalized testing

Could better sleep be one of the missing pieces to better mental health?

In this episode of Power Up Recovery with Nutrition, Christina Veselak sits down with Dr. Saeid Mushtagh of Northshore Naturopathic Clinic, a Vancouver-based naturopathic doctor, to explore the powerful connection between brain health, sleep, nutrition, stress, and emotional wellbeing.

Drawing from both his clinical experience and personal journey with depression, anxiety, ADHD, and multiple concussions, Dr. Mushtagh shares practical strategies for supporting the brain by addressing the root causes rather than simply managing symptoms.

Together, they discuss:

• Why sleep is the foundation of brain health and recovery
• The four pillars of health: sleep, movement, nutrition, and connection
• How cortisol, hormones, and neurotransmitters affect mood and cognition
• The role of heart rate variability in understanding stress and nervous system health
• Simple breathing techniques and daily habits that support better sleep
• How nutrition and targeted amino acids can help restore balance

This conversation is a powerful reminder that lasting recovery begins by supporting the brain and body as a whole, one small step at a time.

What an incredible experience at the Health & Wellness Day in Pennsylvania!

Last week, we had the privilege of connecting with so many wonderful people, including members of the Amish community, while sharing the message of nutritional recovery and brain health.

The event was a tremendous success! We sold over two boxes of EAT! books, along with several amino acid supplements and educational posters. It was inspiring to see so many people eager to learn how nutrition can transform recovery and mental wellness.

One of the highlights of our trip was visiting Natural Hope Herbals, where we toured their facility and learned more about how they produce their high-quality herbal products. They offer a wide variety of organic herbs and wellness products, many of which are manufactured in an FDA-registered facility with a strong commitment to quality. If you're interested in natural health, they're definitely worth checking out!

We also feel incredibly privileged and humbled that Natural Hope Herbals will be distributing EAT! throughout Amish communities across the United States and Canada. Knowing that our message of nutritional recovery has the opportunity to reach so many individuals and families and positively impact countless lives is truly an honor.

Did you know? The Amish are known for their simple lifestyle, strong sense of community, and exceptional craftsmanship. Many families still travel by horse and buggy, live without public electricity in their homes, and value natural living, making wellness and nutrition topics especially meaningful within their communities.

Here are some of our favorite moments from the conference, our visit to Natural Hope Herbals, where we stayed, and the amazing people we met along the way.

Thank you to everyone who made this event so memorable. We look forward to continuing to share the message of Feed the Brain First with communities across the country.

What if preventing addiction starts long before addiction begins?

One of the most important lessons I've learned over the years is that addiction prevention begins long before a person ever struggles with substances. It starts by building a strong foundation for physical, emotional, and mental wellbeing.

In Part 1 of our Addiction Prevention & Stress Resiliency Training for Families, I share practical strategies to help families support healthy brain function, resilience, and long-term wellbeing through nutrition, stable blood sugar, brain chemistry, and connection.

By helping children build the physical, emotional, and nutritional foundations that support resilience throughout life, we can better equip them to navigate stress, make healthy choices, and thrive.

Whether you're a parent, grandparent, educator, youth leader, or someone who cares about the next generation, I encourage you to watch and share this training.

If you found this training valuable, please consider supporting our mission with a donation. Your contribution helps us continue providing education and resources to families, schools, and communities.

This training can also be a valuable resource for schools, youth groups, Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, churches, and community organizations looking to support the wellbeing of children and families.

Together, we can help build healthier, more resilient families and communities.
