Good information!
I see tons of questions about cholesterol and how “bad” levels are.
👀So I wanted to offer some insight….
🔬🧫🔬Cholesterol becomes part of the cell membrane; remember basic biology? We all learned in 9th-10th grade that the cell membrane is made of a phospholipid bilayer. Remember? The phospho-part is water soluble, and the -lipid part is cholesterol. This membrane was designed for multiple purposes, but requires both water and fat soluble nutrients and molecules to pass in and out appropriately for normal function. All our cells have this type of membrane holding all the organelles and cytoplasm inside. 🔔🛎️🔔 Any of this ring a bell??
❤️🩹🩹🤕 Cholesterol is also part of our tissue healing and repair mechanism; when tissues are inflamed or injured, cholesterol comes to the area to start repairing the damage. Do we REALLY want to impair this massively important function of the body? 😳🤦♀️😳
💪🦵💪Cholesterol also becomes all our steroid hormones - cortisol, estrogens, testosterone… ALL of them, as you see in this diagram I use teaching other providers.
The liver makes about 80-85% of all the body’s cholesterol — NO MATTER what we eat. You read that right. Only about 15% of the cholesterol level is diet/lifestyle dependent 🤦♀️😳🤦♀️
If cholesterol is “high”, I look for WHY? Why is cholesterol high in this patient or that patient???
❓What is inflamed?
❓What is injured?
❓What is damaged?
❓What is out of balance systemically?
💜⚕️💜 Cholesterol goes up in response to illness, injury, hormone imbalances, insulin resistance, poor thyroid balance, and more.
Use high cholesterol as a signal to find what is REALLY happening, and work to improve or optimize THAT!!!
👀⚕️👀 Keep your eyes on the real problem. Don’t lose focus.
