The research on lifting and brain health is not preliminary anymore.

BDNF, hippocampal volume, cerebral blood flow, myokines. The mechanisms are specific. The evidence is consisten
t. The effect size rivals pharmaceutical interventions.

We wrote the whole thing out. Link in bio.LinkedIn Post
If exercise for brain health were a drug, it would be on every prescription pad.

Resistance training elevates BDNF. It grows hippocampal tissue. It improves cerebral blood flow. It activates the same neuroprotective pathways that estrogen supports, through entirely different mechanisms.

The most effective thing a woman over 50 can do for her cognitive future is train consistently with progressive load. Not a supplement. Not an app. A barbell.

The Deadlift: Picking Things Up for 200,000 Years 💪🏋️

Humans have been lifting heavy things off the ground since forever. Then in the 1920s, Hermann Goerner lifted 700 pounds with ONE HAND and everyone lost their minds.

From ancient dock workers to Thomas Topham (England's first strength celebrity) to Jón Páll Sigmarsson's legendary quote: "There is no reason to be alive if you cannot do deadlift."

The deadlift: the simplest exercise with the longest history.

Twenty posts. One argument.

The body you want isn't a ninety-day project. It's a twenty-year one.

And the version of you at 70 who can still move, lift, and live fully without assistance is built in your 40s and 50s. Through choices made consistently, not perfectly.

Final post in the Valkyrie Fitness Foundation Series is up.

What actually impresses me in the gym: It's not weight 💪✨

Perfect eccentric tempo. Knowing when to stop. Body awareness. Questions. Showing up on hard days.

The truth about warming up: Static stretching doesn't prepare you to lift 💪✨

Movement-based warm-up. Rehearse the pattern. Progressive loading. Match the warm-up to the work.

Most people don't quit training because they're lazy.

They quit because they had the wrong timeline, compared themselves to the wrong people, got bored, didn't have a real program, or let one missed session turn into a month.

Every one of those is a solvable problem.

New post on the Valkyrie blog. The real reasons training programs die and exactly what to do about each one.

Your core isn't weak—it's disconnected 💪✨

Your brain doesn't know how to access those muscles. Dead bugs, bird dogs, planks with exhale. Connection > strength.
