A student of mine recently found out the FDA was coming to inspect her small herbal product line.
As someone who used to get inspected once a year, I know exactly how much that rattles your nerves.
When the inspector showed up, he was concerned about the cyanogenic glycosides in elderberries.
You know where he was doing his research?
Google AI.
Our government officials regulating foods and drugs are turning to Google AI. And that is scary if you think about it.
Because Google AI pulls from the top five or so articles. And we know those are heavily influenced by people with a lot of money who want to control the narrative.
This isn’t new by the way. Once upon a time, some brilliant scientists discovered they could extract chemicals from plants, put them in tiny pills, and sell them for exponential profit.
👀Hey, look, it’s the pharmaceutical industry!
Anyway, for that to work, people had to forget about the plants they’d used as medicine for 60,000 years.
Stripping people of their ancestry knowledge, and the power to heal themselves was intentional then, and it still is today.
This is one of the many reasons I love teaching herbal medicine. The science, the history, the tradition, the nuance. Real knowledge from real experience, not pulled from an algorithm.
Just so happens that I’m opening something I’m really excited about.
