I am board-certified general surgeon and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, as well as a father, husband, and swimmer. I do my surgery at Newton-Wellesley Hospital, a highly rated hospital in Newton, 10 miles outside of Boston. I enjoy taking care of patients as well as teaching medical students and residents. In June 2014, as a re
sult of my contribution to teaching, I was promoted to Associate Clinical Professor in Surgery where I serve as a Clerkship Site Director for Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. Each year, I supervise the surgical education of more than 30 medical students, and contribute to the training of more than 30 surgeons in training from Massachusetts General Hospital. Over my surgical career, I've developed expertise in minimally invasive inguinal and umbilical hernia surgery. I'm also a specialist in surgical treatment of pilonidal disease and for the last ten years, I've been performing the "Cleft-lift" or "Bascom" procedure. While no formal training after surgical residency is required to become an hernia surgeon, gallbladder surgeon or pilonidal surgeon, as a result of my 15 years of experience, focusing on these conditions, I feel that I have become an expert in each.
