Amanda Landry, LMHC

Amanda Landry, LMHC Amanda Landry, LMHC, CAP is owner of Caring Therapists and a Private Practice Consultant The truth is I never planned on going into private practice.

In graduate school, they barely spoke about it and when they did they told me I wouldn’t make any money. So I did what everyone told me to do and I got an agency job. Six years and a couple of promotions later, I was burnt out. It was time for a change, so I dabbled in private practice by renting space from someone on an hourly basis. From there, I opened a group practice called “Caring Therapists

of Broward” and built a robust and profitable group practice by taking insurance and ensuring quality care with effective systems within the practice. Today, I'm the owner of Caring Therapists, a multi-location group practice. I'm a consultant through My Private Practice Collective, a Facebook community with over 18,000 members. I help solo and group practice owners build smart private practices. I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Certified Addictions Professional, National Certified Counselor, and private practice consultant. My book, Guided Journal for Women with Anxiety on sale on Amazon and wherever books are sold. My training includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Couples Counseling, Trauma-Focused CBT, DBT, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. I'm a wife, mom, entrepreneur, and cat owner.

How long does it take to build a group practice? It's probably longer or shorter than you have in your mind.

The #1 factor to growth is going to be how strong your flow of referrals are. The stronger your referrals, the faster you can grow

HIPAA compliance is not a one-time checklist. It is an ongoing process, especially as your practice grows.

This year at Caring Therapists, we made several meaningful changes to strengthen our systems and better protect client information. We added Paubox for encrypted email, completed updated HIPAA training with our entire team, hired a compliance officer, created comprehensive policies and procedures, and made the decision to address upcoming changes before they become requirements.

Compliance may not be the most exciting part of running a practice, but it is one of the most important. Swipe through to see what we changed this year.

Join us September 25–26 in West Palm Beach for Still Wanting, a two-day conference from Modern S*x Therapy Institutes bringing together leading experts in sexuality, relationships, betrayal trauma, menopause, desire, and sexual health.

Friday explores infidelity and betrayal trauma, with nationally recognized clinicians discussing what we know, and what actually helps, when trust and intimacy are disrupted.

Saturday turns to perimenopause and menopause, including hormones, low desire, GSM, ADHD, sexual functioning, and the evolving erotic self.

Designed for therapists, healthcare professionals, and anyone interested in these conversations, the conference offers continuing education credits, practical takeaways, and the opportunity to learn from experts across disciplines.

Have you ever wondered if everyone else knows what they’re doing and you’re the only one figuring it out as you go?

In this video, I talk about why even experienced therapists question themselves, how to separate imposter feelings from an actual competence gap, and what helps us build real, grounded confidence.

The goal isn’t to never doubt yourself. It’s to stop letting that doubt make professional decisions for you.

Does imposter syndrome ever show up for you?

New graduates, you are not supposed to know everything yet. That does not mean you are failing. It means you are new.

One of the biggest mistakes I see is entering the field with unrealistic expectations and assuming private practice is automatically the best first step. There is enormous value in working alongside experienced clinicians, receiving strong supervision, learning how systems operate, and making early mistakes with support around you. Build your clinical foundation first. Private practice will still be there when you are ready.

Want a quick reminder of what not to do as a therapist? Read your licensing board’s meeting minutes.

Ethics is not just something we study for the exam or revisit when our CEUs are due. It shows up in our documentation, boundaries, billing, supervision, communication, and the decisions we make when no one is watching. Protect your clients, your license, and the profession by staying informed and never getting too comfortable.

You don't need another training. Looking to enhance your clinical skills? Do these things instead:

1. Join a clinical supervision group
2. Attend your own therapy
3. Consume other forms of media, such as books and podcasts
4. Remind yourself that the best intervention is the therapeutic relationship
