"Sometimes it’s okay to think that our anger is trying to protect us. However, it is more truthful to think that it’s actually protecting something else that’s a little deeper than that. It’s protecting our hurt. It’s protecting our broken hearts. The work to turn our attention back to the woundedness is this really intense, profound path of transformation, which doesn’t feel as good as just responding to the anger, because the energy of anger makes us feel powerful.”

Weekly Words to Inspire Practice!

"You must never confuse faith that you will prevail in the end—which you can never afford to lose—with the discipline to confront the most brutal facts of your current reality, whatever they might be.”

Weekly Words to Inspire Practice!

"We can experience touch throughout the whole body. The feet touch one another, the hands touch one another, and the hands touch the feet. The hands, feet, and hair touch the body, and the tongue touches the teeth and the palate. Mucus, saliva, food, and water touch the throat and the palate... We are also always coming into physical contact with external things such as our clothes, shoes, bed, pillow, blanket, the floor or ground, the wall, our umbrella or walking stick, stones and plants, the wind, sunlight and water, tools and furniture, and so on... Note the nature of these sensations of touch clearly, precisely, and accurately...”

Weekly Words to Inspire Practice!

"Let us be aware of the movements of the body, for example, while we are blinking, be aware; while we are breathing, be aware. When thought arises, be aware. This is what we call Sati or self-awareness.”

Buddhism‘s emphasis on “truth” includes a realistic acceptance of aging, health and sickness, and end-of-life. However, beyond acceptance and preparation for the inevitable changes of the body and mind that all of us must face one day, these same teachings (and related meditation practices) also provide a critical and deeper understanding of how to live fully in every moment throughout one’s whole life. This program will relate to aging, sickness, and death as liberation teachings, will include guided meditation, and teacher-led conversation, as well as periods of silence.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend–open to beginners and experienced meditators.

Coffee, tea, and light snacks will be provided. Please bring your own lunch. Full use of WIMC kitchen will be available.

Weekly Words to Inspire Practice!

"What we are talking about is conditioning, the way habit patterns form over time. We all have habits, patterns of thinking, relating, behaving, talking (to others and internally to ourselves), patterns of perceiving and evaluating events and other people, etc.

In the context of meditation and dharma practice, this is commonly referred to as habitual conditioning - the conditioned, or automatic (and often unconscious ways) we move through life internally, relationally, and socially.

And I would argue even more broadly environmentally, the way we move through the world and the way we perceive ourselves in relationship to the whole, whether that be the whole of humanity or the more-than-human world of nature, the environment we live in, what Buddhist-informed environmental poet Gary Snyder referred to as the 'Earth Household'.”
