Why do we start our workouts with laps? 🚶🏻🚶🏽♀️
If you’ve visited The Center, you’ve probably noticed our members walking a few laps before beginning their strength and balance exercises. And no, it’s not just to pass the time! 🤯
Those first few minutes of walking provide a gentle cardiovascular warm-up, or what we can think of as cardiovascular priming.❤️🔥
Walking gradually increases your:
🫀heart rate
🩸blood flow
🫁breathing
🌡️body temperature
… helping your body transition from rest into exercise.
A walking warm-up also gets the joints moving, warms up the muscles, and prepares your body for the demands of the workout ahead. Rather than going from sitting to immediately exercising, you’re giving your cardiovascular, muscular, and nervous systems a chance to get ready to work. 💪🏽
At The Center, every part of the workout has a purpose. Even the laps! 🏃🏽♂️➡️🏃🏼♀️➡️
