In 1947, the Wisconsin Society of Anesthesiologists (WSA) was chartered by the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) as its fourteenth (14th) Component State Society. From an initial handful of members, currently WSA has 540+ Active members, plus a dozen Scientist & 150+ Resident members from the two training centers at Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) and UW-Madison. Created to provide in

-state CME for anesthesiologists, today the WSA also serves patients, the general public and their elected representatives as the resource on standards of ethical anesthesia care.

Dr. Katherine Keech is an associate professor in the department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Iowa where she works clinically in the Stead Family Children’s Hospital as a pediatric anesthesiologist. In her non-clinical endeavors, she is an associate program director for both the anesthesiology residency program and for the pediatric anesthesiology fellowship program as well as the director of the 4 week advanced elective in anesthesia for medical students. She resides just outside of Iowa City with her husband and 4 children.

Dr. Bradley Silva is an anesthesiologist and pain medicine physician at the University of Chicago. Previously, Dr. Silva was in private practice focusing exclusively in pain medicine. Prior to becoming a physician, Dr. Silva was a practicing attorney in Chicago.

Dr. Sheaba Varghese is a double board-certified Anesthesiologist and Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia specialist who currently serves as a Pediatric Anesthesiologist in the Cardiac Division at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center and is a Clinical Assistant Professor through University of Cincinnati. She completed her residency in Chicago followed by specialized fellowships in Pediatric Anesthesia at Nemours and then Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesia in Cincinnati. Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Varghese’s extends beyond the borders of the Unites States as a dedicated international educator actively participating in global medical missions working to advance anesthesia safety and reach underserved areas.

Olga Leavitt obtained her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University and her medical degree with from University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago. She completed anesthesiology residency training at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and pediatric anesthesia fellowship at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Hospital of Chicago. She is an Assistant Professor in Anesthesiology with a clinical interest in pediatric neuroanesthesiology.

Jenny Kwak, MD, FASE, FASA is Chief of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology at Loyola University Medical Center and Professor at Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. Having felt the strong pull of her native Chicago roots, she landed at Loyola after completing her training at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Dr. Kwak’s research and writing covers the broad scope of cardiac anesthesia, and as a hemophilia mom, she has a special interest in coagulation and patient blood management. She is a member of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Committee on Patient Blood Management, a board member for Society for the Advancement of Patient Blood Management (SABM), and a member of the Research Committee for the National Bleeding Disorders Foundation (NBDF). In addition, she is Vice-Chair for the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA) Blood Management Sub-Committee, Co-Chair of the Loyola University Medical Center Blood Utilization Committee, and Co-Chair for the SABM Annual Meeting.

Lois A. Connolly, MD, FACHE, FASA, is a Professor Emeritus of Anesthesiology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, in Milwaukee and is the founding medical director of its Master of Science in Anesthesia Program. She serves as Vice President for Professional Affairs (VPPA) at the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) which over sees the Division of Professional Affairs. The Division of Professional Affairs is instrumental in responding to ASA members’ needs to navigate the economic landscape we face. The division collaborates with various committees and sections to tackle ongoing threats such as low Medicare and Medicaid Conversion Factors, inadequate Quality Payment Program adjustments, and payer games.Additionally, since 2005, she has served as a closed claims reviewer, reviewing law claims that were settled on behalf of anesthesiologist (groups) for factors involved in the claims.

Dr. Connolly is a member of ASA’s Administrative Council serving on ASA’s Board of Directors, House of Delegates, and the Anesthesia Quality Institute’s Board of Directors. She is a Fellow at the American College of Healthcare Executives.
