Great things to think about, join us for our Connection Couples Retreat, April 5-7!

One common reason couples therapy can feel exhausting is that most couples often wait until the eleventh hour to seek help. By the time they walk through the therapist’s door, years of unresolved issues and pent-up emotions have taken their toll. It’s like trying to put out a forest fire with a garden hose.

Read on to find out why a couple's retreat may be just what you're looking for- and GREAT NEWS! We have one coming up in April- register today by calling 248.296.3104 or email [email protected]

Spaces are limited, so reserve your spot today!

Tonight is the first night of Chanukah. The Festival of Lights. We are suppose to remember the miracles of this holiday. It is another occasion that marks the fact that someone wanted to kill the Jewish people and they were not successful. It hits home just a bit different this year. And yet we celebrate, we honor the holiday and we light our candles and focus on the good. Knowing that the holiday would begin tonight, and feeling the struggle of celebrating while 137 people are still held hostage and so many more suffering, I turned to my usual- food. I knew the day would be a little easier and a lot sweeter with these jelly donuts, one of the traditional foods on Chanukah. I kneaded my dough, tested the batter, fried, filled and sprinkled. It worked. We lit candles and loudly and proudly recited the blessings and a sang songs. The kids, and the rest of my family enjoyed the sweets together. Baking was a great way to help focus on the good, the light and the joy.

Sunday dinner. Instead of giving in to the “Sunday scaries” how about bringing everyone together around the table for a meal that took 10 minutes to prep, got tossed in the oven, filled the house with warm, welcoming smells and got devoured in record time. It’s a great chance to sit together, recap the weekend, plan the week ahead and feel connected and prepared to take on the week.

Let’s talk dinner. I know so many people out there hate making dinner. Hate the thought of making dinner, the planning of if, the shopping for it, and on and on it goes. For every. Darn. Day. I get that it can be daunting and stressful, but I want to also propose a new approach. What if every now and then dinner could be seen as an opportunity. What if you could look in the pantry and the fridge and pull together some ingredients to make a meal that you saw as a chance to invest in yourself. Mise en Plas is the French phrase that chefs use for prepping and origami zing their ingredients. Literally it means “all in its place.” Sometimes making dinner is a chance for us to put everything in its place emotionally. Today I came home after some appointments, meetings and errands and I felt overwhelmed by the day. There was a bit of stress thinking about all the to-do’s of the week, and all the planning and ideas swirling around in my head. I need something quiet and calming that would bring me back to the moment and feel some sense of “everything in its place.” So I made dinner. I pulled out some noodles from the pantry, some veg in the crisper drawer and a piece of salmon that was waiting to be cooked. I made beautiful, even, steady cuts of julienne carrots, peppers, onions and asparagus. I mixed some miso paste, garlic, ginger, soy to make a quick sauce and I tossed it all together with a side of roasted salmon. Dinner was delicious but what was even better was the sense of calm that it’s preparation brought me. I hope you’ll give it a try!

Sometimes makes us so funny things, especially for our kids! We are sushi lovers in this house and my daughter and I love all the variations and trends. So this sushi sandwich was a must try. It came together really easily and tastes as good as it looks! It’s great timing for back to school since this will make a great packed lunch. This is such a great example of easy it is to connect and bond over food. My kids and I have so much fun cooking, creating and enjoying new creations in the kitchen. What new fun things have you discovered with your kids in the kitchen this summer?
