The Hickman was founded in 1891 by two Quaker women who recognized a need in their community: a safe, affordable place where older adults could receive care, support, and companionship.

What an inspiring and heartfelt conversation!

The Hickman’s Caregiver Support Group recently welcomed Amelia May Summers, author of Burnt Toast and All, for an honest discussion about the emotional side of caregiving. Amelia spoke compassionately about her own story and created a welcoming space for caregivers to reflect on the challenges, emotions, and meaningful moments that accompany this important role.

Each participant received helpful handouts and a journal to continue exploring their own caregiving experience beyond the meeting.

What a wonderful evening to welcome back a cherished Hickman tradition!

After last year’s outdoor concert was canceled due to rain, we were especially grateful to gather once again for live music in our gardens. Residents, families, friends, and neighbors enjoyed a beautiful performance by the Diamond State Concert Band as the group celebrates 50 years of making music together.

The evening was filled with familiar melodies, warm conversation, and summer refreshments—with the root beer floats receiving especially rave reviews!
