Good news for anyone who's been putting off treatment because of insurance worries: Lumiere now accepts Custom Design Benefits, in addition to our existing insurance partners.

We also offer a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) β€” a structured level of care that provides intensive support and therapy while allowing clients more independence than a fully residential stay. It's often the right next step after detox or inpatient care, or an entry point for those who need more support than traditional outpatient offers.

There's a new contaminant showing up in the fentanyl supply, and it's important people know about it: medetomidine, a powerful animal sedative sometimes called "dex." It's increasingly replacing xylazine ("tranq") as a cutting agent in illicit fentanyl in cities across the country β€” and Ohio is not immune.

Here's why it matters: medetomidine is not an opioid, so naloxone (Narcan) won't reverse its sedative effects the way it does with fentanyl. That means an overdose involving medetomidine can look and behave differently β€” and can be more dangerous to manage outside of medical care.

If you're using, or worried about someone who is: don't use alone, always call 911 for a suspected overdose even after naloxone is given, and know that medical detox exists for a reason β€” this supply is not something to try to manage on your own.

There's real, encouraging news in the fight against the opioid crisis: fentanyl-related deaths have been trending down across Ohio and the nation over the past several years. That progress matters, and it's worth celebrating.

But a shrinking, weaker fentanyl supply doesn't mean a safer one β€” it often means a more unpredictable one, as dealers cut product with other substances to stretch it further. Progress isn't the same as "safe." If you or someone you love is still using, now is not the time to let your guard down β€” it's a good time to reach out for help.
