The Sigurd Center is excited to welcome our new aides, Max and Sallie! Max is from Columbia, SC and graduated with a BS in Exercise Science from the University of South Carolina this past May. He is pursuing a career in physical therapy and plans to attend PT school next fall. Outside of work, Max likes to watch sports and play cards. He is excited to get to know all of the therapists and patients here at the Sigurd Center.

Sallie grew up in Columbia and recently graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology from Louisiana State University. Sallie will pursue her doctorate in Occupational Therapy, following her gap year at the Sigurd Center. Outside of work, Sallie enjoys running, needlepointing, and spending time with friends and family! Sallie is looking forward to spending time getting to know you all this year and joining the Sigurd Center family!

May is Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month! This weekend, members of our team participated in the Great Strides 5K to support the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, helping raise both funds and awareness for those affected. This cause is especially meaningful to our team, and we were proud to walk in honor of Jenniferโ€™s son, Riley. Go team Monkeycheese!! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ‘Ÿ

We are excited to share that 5 of our therapists are now certified in the Barbell Rehab Method (BRM)! Continuing education is important to us to stay current with the latest evidence-based practices in order to continue to improve patient outcomes.

Incorporating weighted lifting into physical therapy for adult and geriatric patients is essential for improving functional strength. Evidence-based practice strongly supports the use of progressive resistance training in older adults, showing improvements in muscle strength, power, balance, and mobility, as well as reductions in fall risk.

We believe rehab doesnโ€™t stop at pain reliefโ€”it should prepare you for real life. Whether thatโ€™s getting back to the gym, your sport, or just feeling stronger, we are committed to empowering our patients to be their BEST!
