A summer job can be a meaningful and rewarding experience, especially as it builds independence, responsibility, and new skills. But at the same time, it can also be tiring and stressful, especially if it’s your first time balancing work expectations with personal time.

Learning how to set boundaries, take breaks, and rest properly is just as important as doing well at work.

Growth doesn’t have to come at the cost of burnout—balance is what helps you sustain both learning and wellbeing.

Moving on to college is an exciting milestone, but it can also bring emotional challenges that aren’t always talked about. New environments, new expectations, and increased independence can feel overwhelming at first. It’s important to remember that adjusting takes time, and it’s okay not to have everything figured out right away.

Preparing mentally—by acknowledging your feelings, managing expectations, and giving yourself grace—can make the transition smoother and help you build confidence as you step into this new chapter.

Feeling nervous before exams is completely normal—but sometimes that nervousness can start to feel overwhelming and distracting. When that happens, it can help to pause and bring yourself back to the present moment. Simple grounding techniques, slow breathing, and positive self-talk can help calm the mind.

Remind yourself that you’ve prepared, you’ve learned, and you are more ready than you feel in anxious moments.

Focus on one question at a time, and allow yourself to move through the exam with steadiness instead of pressure.

As the school year comes to an end, many students start to feel the weight of deadlines, exams, and expectations all at once. It can feel like everything is happening quickly, and it’s easy to get overwhelmed trying to finish strong. In moments like this, it helps to slow down, stay grounded, and focus on what you can manage one step at a time.

You don’t have to do everything perfectly—what matters is pacing yourself and protecting your energy so you can finish the school year in a way that feels steady, not exhausting.

If your teen seems “off,” withdrawn, or emotionally different this summer, it’s okay to take it seriously early.

You don’t have to wait for things to escalate before seeking support. Early intervention can help teens feel understood and supported before challenges grow.

Macon Changes Professional Counseling Services is here to help.

Teens don’t need every moment planned during summer—but having positive outlets can help them stay engaged and emotionally balanced.

Some healthy options include:
• Physical activity or sports
• Creative hobbies
• Volunteering or community involvement
• Learning new skills or part-time work

Structure doesn’t limit freedom—it can support it.

We help teens build healthier routines and coping skills.

With more free time, social gatherings, and less structure, summer can increase opportunities where teens may encounter peer pressure or risky situations, including substance use.

This makes open, honest communication even more important. Teens are more likely to make safe decisions when they feel supported—not judged.

Counseling support can help families navigate these conversations with confidence.

Summer offers more time at home, but that doesn’t always mean more connection with teens.

Staying emotionally connected doesn’t require big conversations, just consistent presence.

Try:
• Asking open-ended questions
• Spending low-pressure time together
• Listening without immediately fixing

Connection builds trust over time, not in a single moment.

Support is available for families navigating these seasons.

As summer begins, many teens experience a shift in routine that can affect their mood, energy, and motivation.
Without the structure of school days, some teens may feel unmotivated, restless, or more withdrawn than usual. These changes are often part of the adjustment—but they still deserve attention and support.

Creating simple daily structure and staying emotionally connected can help teens feel more balanced during this transition.

If your teen is struggling with the change in routine, support is available.
