Executive functioning is something we all use every day, but for many neurodivergent individuals, it can require much more effort.

Difficulties with getting started, shifting between tasks, managing time, regulating emotions, or remembering information aren’t about being lazy or unmotivated. They can be part of how the brain processes and organizes information.

Understanding executive functioning can replace self-criticism with self-compassion and help you find strategies that actually work for your brain.

At Sweet Bliss Counseling, our clinicians provide neurodiversity-affirming support for children, teens, and adults navigating ADHD, autism, OCD, anxiety, trauma, and more. 💙

OCD is about more than intrusive thoughts. 🔄

Miranda recently wrote a new blog exploring how reassurance-seeking can unintentionally keep the OCD cycle going and how therapy can help you build a different relationship with uncertainty. Feel free to read it here https://sweetblisscounseling.squarespace.com/blog-3-1/why-reassurance-doesnt-help-ocd-even-though-it-feels-like-it-does-written-by-miranda-short-ncc-lpc

If you’re looking for support with OCD, anxiety, or intrusive thoughts, Miranda is currently accepting new virtual clients throughout New Jersey and is in-network with most major insurance plans.

Emotional awareness starts with slowing down enough to notice what’s happening within us. 🤍

1. Notice it: Recognize that an emotion is showing up.
2. Name it: Put words to what you’re feeling.
3. Allow it: Give the emotion space to exist without immediately pushing it away.
4. Understand it: Get curious about what may be underneath the feeling or what it might be communicating.
5. Respond to it: Consider what you need and choose how you want to respond.

We can’t always choose which emotions show up, but we can learn to understand them rather than immediately reacting to them. Emotional awareness takes practice and sometimes simply noticing what you’re feeling is a meaningful place to stay.☀️

JuliaRose, one of our Licensed Professional Counselors and a Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional, created this simple wellness check-in as a gentle reminder that caring for your mental health often starts with caring for yourself as a whole.

You don’t have to check every box. Start with one. 💛

Starting therapy can feel like a big step and it’s completely normal to feel a little nervous!💜

Allison Peters, Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified ADHD Clinical Services Provider (ADHD-CCSP), created this guide with a few simple ways to help you feel more prepared for your first session.

Remember, you don’t have to have everything figured out before you begin. Your therapist is there to meet you where you are and walk alongside you every step of the way!☀️

Burnout isn’t always easy to recognize, especially when you’ve spent years adapting, pushing through, or assuming the exhaustion is “just part of life.” Understanding what can contribute to autistic burnout allows us to create more supportive environments, honor our own needs, and recognize when it’s time to slow down and recharge.

Everyone’s experience is different, and this list isn’t exhaustive, but we hope it offers a starting point for conversation, awareness, and self-compassion. 💜

If you’re looking for support in navigating autism, neurodivergence, or autistic burnout, we are here to help!

Summer can be a beautiful season, but it can also bring up body image challenges for many people. 💛

Our clinician, JuliaRose Fodali, LPC, Certified Integrative Mental Health Professional (CIMHP), created these gentle affirmations as a reminder that your worth is never determined by your appearance. You deserve to enjoy the sunshine, make memories, and care for yourself with compassion, not criticism.

We hope these reminders encourage you to embrace yourself with kindness this summer. Save this post for the days you need a little extra self-compassion. ☀️
