💜 SYMPTOM SPOTLIGHT: EAR FULLNESS 💜

Have you ever felt like your ear was plugged, full, or needed to pop—but your ear exam was normal?

Ear fullness and ear pressure are surprisingly common migraine symptoms.

Many people assume these symptoms are caused by:
🔹 Sinus problems
🔹 Allergies
🔹 Ear infections
🔹 Eustachian tube dysfunction

While those conditions can certainly cause ear symptoms, migraine can also contribute to:
✨ Ear fullness
✨ Ear pressure
✨ Popping sensations
✨ Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
✨ Sound sensitivity

Migraine affects much more than head pain—it can influence multiple sensory systems throughout the brain and nervous system.

💜 MYTH vs. TRUTH 💜

MYTH: Migraine only affects women.

TRUTH: Migraine affects men, women, and children.

While migraine is more common in women, it can affect individuals of all ages and genders. In fact, migraine affects approximately 1 in 10 school-aged children and remains one of the most common neurological conditions worldwide.

Unfortunately, because migraine is often associated with women, many men and children may go undiagnosed or experience delays in receiving appropriate care.

Migraine doesn't discriminate—and neither should awareness.

💜 SYMPTOM SPOTLIGHT: SINUS PRESSURE 💜

Many people assume facial pressure automatically means a sinus infection—but migraine can cause sinus symptoms, too.

• Facial pressure and sinus discomfort are common migraine symptoms.
• Many people diagnosed with "sinus headaches" actually meet criteria for migraine.
• Migraine can cause pressure around the forehead, eyes, cheeks, and nose—even when the sinuses are healthy.
• Nasal congestion, watery eyes, and facial pressure can all occur during migraine attacks.

If you've been treated repeatedly for sinus headaches without relief, it may be worth considering whether migraine could be contributing to your symptoms.

Migraine is much more than head pain and can affect many different areas of the head and face.

💜 DID YOU KNOW? 💜

You do not have to have head pain to be experiencing a migraine attack.

While headache is a common symptom, migraine can also cause dizziness, visual changes, nausea, sensitivity to light or sound, brain fog, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating—even when head pain is minimal or absent.

Migraine is a complex neurological condition that affects more than just the head.

Understanding migraine means looking beyond the pain.

💜 SYMPTOM SPOTLIGHT: DIZZINESS 💜

When most people think of migraine, they think of head pain.

But for many individuals, dizziness, vertigo, imbalance, and motion sensitivity can be just as disruptive—and sometimes occur without significant headache pain.

One possible cause is vestibular migraine, a type of migraine that affects the brain's balance systems. Symptoms may include:
🔹 Dizziness
🔹 Vertigo (spinning sensations)
🔹 Imbalance
🔹 Motion sensitivity
🔹 Nausea
🔹 Light and sound sensitivity

We also frequently see dizziness and vestibular symptoms become more noticeable during perimenopause, when fluctuating hormone levels can influence both migraine and the vestibular system.

If you've ever felt dizzy, off-balance, or motion-sensitive and wondered if it could be related to migraine—the answer may be yes.

🧠 DISORDER SPOTLIGHT: MIGRAINE

Migraine is much more than a headache.

Migraine is a complex neurologic condition that affects the brain and nervous system. While head pain is a common symptom, many people also experience nausea, light sensitivity, sound sensitivity, dizziness, brain fog, neck pain, fatigue, and more.

Did you know?
• Migraine affects more than 1 billion people worldwide.
• Migraine attacks often occur in phases, including prodrome, aura, headache, and postdrome.
• No two migraine attacks are exactly alike.
• Effective treatment may include medications, Botox, nerve blocks, neuromodulation devices, lifestyle modifications, supplements, and other individualized therapies.

Understanding migraine helps reduce stigma and encourages earlier diagnosis and treatment.

💜 MYTH vs. TRUTH 💜

MYTH: If my MRI is normal, I don't actually have migraines.

TRUTH: Most people with migraine have normal imaging. A normal MRI does not make migraine symptoms any less real.

One of the most common things we hear in clinic is:

"But my MRI was normal."

Migraine is a neurological condition that is diagnosed based on symptoms and clinical history—not on MRI findings. In fact, most people living with migraine have normal brain imaging.

A normal MRI is reassuring because it helps rule out other causes of symptoms, but it does not rule out migraine.

Your symptoms are real. Your experience matters. And a normal MRI does not change that.

💜 SYMPTOM SPOTLIGHT: BRAIN FOG 💜

When most people think of migraine, they think of head pain. But for many individuals, one of the most frustrating symptoms is actually brain fog.

Brain fog can make it difficult to:
🔹 Concentrate
🔹 Find the right words
🔹 Process information
🔹 Remember details
🔹 Complete everyday tasks

What many people don't realize is that brain fog can occur before, during, or after a migraine attack.

Migraine is more than a headache—it's a neurological condition that can affect many aspects of how the brain functions.

💜 SYMPTOM SPOTLIGHT: NECK PAIN 💜

Did you know that neck pain is one of the most common migraine symptoms?

Many people assume neck pain is a separate issue, but the neck and brain share important pain pathways. In fact, neck pain can occur before, during, or after a migraine attack.

✔ Frequently overlooked: Neck pain is one of the most common migraine symptoms.
✔ Connected: The neck and brain share pain pathways.
✔ Can be severe: Symptoms can range from mild stiffness to significant pain.
✔ You are not alone: Many people experience neck pain during migraine attacks.

Understanding migraine means recognizing that symptoms can extend far beyond head pain.

MYTH: Migraine is just a bad headache.

TRUTH: Migraine is a complex neurologic disease that affects much more than the head.

Migraine can impact vision, balance, concentration, energy levels, mood, and even digestion. For many people, the symptoms extend far beyond pain and can significantly affect daily life.

During National Migraine & Headache Awareness Month, we're committed to educating our community and raising awareness about the realities of living with migraine. Understanding migraine is the first step toward better support, treatment, and care.
