For more than a century, the rete ovarii—a small network of tubules located near the o***y—was largely considered a leftover structure with little function. New research is challenging that assumption.
Researchers studying mice found evidence that the rete ovarii is biologically active, communicating with the o***y, transporting fluid and proteins, and responding to reproductive hormones. While more research is needed to understand what this means for human fertility, the findings highlight how much we are still learning about reproductive health.
For Dr. Saadat, research like this reinforces an important part of fertility care: the details matter. Every patient’s reproductive health is complex, which is why he takes a thorough, individualized approach to understanding each patient’s fertility before recommending a treatment plan.
As fertility science continues to evolve, so should the way we approach patient care.
