We all have the opportunity to feel our emotions in the moment they occur, but we’ve been conditioned by society to avoid them and focus on doing rather than feeling. When something traumatic happens and we’re hit with an overwhelming flood of emotions, we often find distractions to occupy our minds while we quietly find places in our bodies to store them for later. This backlog of unfelt emotions continues to grow until we eventually feel them, hold them, and let them go. Triggering situations will manifest in our lives continuously to bring them back to the surface to allow us to address them and free up space within. It’s essential to realize that these emotions cannot be escaped, only stored. This emotional debt must be paid back with interest because trapped emotions will fester and grow if left unattended.
