We are so grateful for Sophie and the kindness she has shared with our residents! 💙❤️
Her visits have created meaningful friendships and reminded us all how powerful a simple conversation or game can be. Thank you, Sophie, for choosing West Liberty Nursing and Rehabilitation for your "Foster a Resident" project and for making such a lasting impact on our community. We are incredibly proud of you and wish you all the best in your future endeavors!
Each month, 2025 Rogers Scholar Sophie Johnston visits four residents at West Liberty Nursing and Rehabilitation through her “Foster a Resident” community service project.
From sharing conversations and life stories to playing board games, Sophie has built meaningful friendships that have brought joy to the residents while enriching her own life.
“Foster a Resident has been one of the most meaningful service projects I’ve participated in because it allowed me to build genuine relationships with people in my community,” she said. “Spending time with the residents helped me grow in patience, empathy, and communication. The experience reminded me that simply being there for someone can make a bigger difference than people realize.”
Graduates of The Center for Rural Development’s Rogers Scholars are required to complete a community service project within one year of finishing the program.
