🌟 Staff Spotlight: Meet Abbi! 🌟

Abbi Carlson is a Speech-Language Pathologist who has been part of the Therapeutic Focus family for about 13 years!

Abbi chose speech-language pathology because communication plays such an important role in our lives. She is passionate about helping children develop these essential skills, and her favorite part of the job is seeing her students make progress and acquire new skills. 💬💜

Fun fact: Abbi is also a ballet dancer! She regularly dances at Ballet Memphis alongside other adult ballet dancers. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her three children, ages 9, 8, and 5.

We are incredibly grateful for Abbi’s years of dedication to Therapeutic Focus and the many children and families she has served!

🌟 Therapy Tip Tuesday: Hopscotch! 🌟

Hopscotch is a simple and fun activity that gets kids moving while building important skills! It can help children ages 4 and older work on:

🔹 Coordination
🔹 Jumping
🔹 Number Recognition
🔹 Motor Planning

Make it easier by drawing smaller squares close together. For an extra challenge, call out numbers and have your child jump to the correct one!

Grab some sidewalk chalk and give it a try at home! 💜

✏️🍎 It’s back-to-school time!

Our entire Therapeutic Focus team is excited to begin a new school year and cheer on our students, families, teachers, and school staff! Dr. LaTeasha and a few of our therapists helped us celebrate by snapping these fun first-day photos. 📸

We hope this year is filled with learning, growth, new friendships, and plenty of moments worth celebrating. Wishing everyone a wonderful school year! 💜

It may look like we’re simply stacking cups, but so much skill-building is happening behind the scenes! 🥤👏

Activities like this can help children practice fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, attention, motor planning, problem-solving, and teamwork. The best part? Therapy can feel like play while helping children build skills they use every day. 💜

🌟 Staff Spotlight: Meet Miracle! 🌟

Miracle is a Pediatric Occupational Therapist who joined the Therapeutic Focus family in January 2025.

Born with a disability herself, Miracle attended Camp Dream Street, a camp for children with disabilities in Utica, Mississippi. There, she saw the difference occupational therapy could make in a person’s life. Inspired by that experience, she shifted her studies from piano performance to kinesiology and began pursuing a career helping children adapt to life to the best of their abilities.

Her favorite part of being an OT is watching a child accomplish a goal or seeing something they have struggled with finally click. 💙

Fun fact: Miracle is a classically trained pianist with 14 years of experience and has won several competitions in Mississippi! Outside of work, she enjoys video games, reading, camping, shopping, and completing 1,000+ piece jigsaw puzzles.

We are so grateful to have Miracle on the Therapeutic Focus team!

Simon says…it’s time for Therapy Tip Tuesday! 👋

This classic game is an easy, screen-free activity that helps children practice attention, coordination, motor skills, and following directions, all while having fun!

Make it work for your child:

💜 Easier: Begin with one simple action at a time, such as “Simon says, touch your nose.”

💛 Harder: Try multi-step directions, such as “Simon says, clap twice, turn around, and sit down.”

This activity is great for children ages 4 and older and supports both occupational and speech therapy skills. Give it a try at home!

Communication can look different for every child and every form of communication matters! 💬

Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices use pictures, symbols, or words to help children communicate their wants, needs, thoughts, and feelings. With support and practice, AAC can help children participate more fully at home, at school, and in their communities.

AAC doesn’t replace communication, it helps make communication more accessible. 💚
