Look at nature. A sea turtle doesn’t calculate its macros. A zebra doesn’t feel guilty for grabbing an extra bite. Every living creature on this planet has a biological imperative to nourish itself.

So why are humans the only species that attach shame and morality to a basic, fundamental survival need?

Somewhere along the line, diet culture convinced us that our natural hunger cues are something to be feared, suppressed, or controlled. We’ve been taught to override our own biology, and it’s exhausting.

True food freedom is about unlearning the societal guilt and getting back to the basics: trusting your body, feeding it what it needs, and living your life. You deserve to nourish yourself just as freely as the rest of the animal kingdom.

There’s a massive misconception that prioritizing your physical and mental health is a luxury—or worse, that it’s selfish. But the truth is, true self-care is foundational.

We also need to break the silence on a major stigma: struggling with food and body image isn’t just a “woman’s issue.” Men face immense, often unspoken pressures and silent struggles around food and body standards. It’s time we normalize having these conversations and seeking support, no matter who you are.

When you’re in recovery, hearing you look healthy or getting comments on weight loss can feel like a total trap. Society means well, but the ED brain instantly translates it to: 🛑 “Threat detected. You’re getting big.” or ”You were too big to begin with.” You don’t have to let someone else’s external commentary derail your internal progress. Whether they are projecting their own ideas of “health” or commenting on changes in your body, you have choices in how you respond. You can pivot the conversation entirely, set a firm boundary, or lean into your internal anchor to remind yourself of what real healing feels like to you.

1. The Pivot: A classic redirection tactic. You politely acknowledge the comment with a quick thanks! and immediately change the subject to something entirely unrelated to your body (e.g., how was your weekend?). It completely neutralizes the topic without creating awkwardness.
2. The Boundary: A direct but kind way to protect your peace. This option lets the other person know that you are focusing on things outside of physical appearance, establishing a clear line that your body weight and shape are not up for discussion.
3. The Internal Anchor: A mindset shift where you filter their words through your own definition of recovery. Instead of letting their external observations dictate your worth, you anchor yourself in your internal metrics—like having more energy, a better mood, and freedom from the cage.

How do you handle these types of comments? Let me know in the comments below. 👇

I personally prefer a combo of 1 and 3!

Your body is a tool, not a trophy. 🛠️ You don’t need to be in love with your reflection to give your body the fuel it deserves. Focus on the function.

The hardest lift isn’t a 500lb deadlift. It’s the 2-second conversation where you finally say, “I’m struggling.” 🛠️

We’ve rebranded “disorder” as “discipline” for far too long. If your routine is actually a cage, the most “alpha” thing you can do is find the door.

You don’t have to do it alone. Reach out to a professional who understands the male experience.

Is it discipline or is it a disorder? 🚩

During the height of my struggle, I was completely convinced I was just “dialed in.” I told myself that the immense guilt I felt if I missed a single workout was just “the price of dedication.”

But the truth is, I was a hostage to the routine.

My workouts became a punishment, which then bled into an extreme, obsessive recovery routine. I became consumed with “maximizing” my body’s recovery windows. I was forcing myself into freezing ice baths, immediately followed by burning hot Epsom salt baths—all because I was terrified of losing an ounce of progress or control.

I felt completely trapped in a cycle I created, under the guise of “optimization.”

I’m sharing this because I know exactly how lonely that cage feels, and I’m certain some of you are sitting in it right now. When your routine starts owning you, it’s no longer a tool—it’s a prison.

It’s time to redefine what real health looks like. Real strength is biological flexibility and mental freedom, not an extreme protocol driven by anxiety.

If you’re tired of the cage, hit follow. We’re mending the gap together. 🛠️

You can’t optimize a mind that is literally starving.

For Mental Health Awareness Month, let’s stop the lie that you can “willpower” your way out of a severe anxiety or food obsession if your brain doesn’t have enough glucose to function.

When you’re in a chronic calorie deficit to maintain a specific physique, your brain undergoes a physical shift. It hardens. It stops absorbing information, it loses flexibility, and it bounces away logic—exactly like a dried-out sponge trying to take in water.

Real mental health strategy starts on the plate. When you give the brain its required fuel, it becomes pliable again. You can finally absorb therapy, process stress, and silence the constant noise.

Stop trying to fix your mind while starving your machine. I have to give a special thanks to my mentor for sharing this amazing analogy. I know knows what I’m talking about!!

Food doesn’t have a gender. 🍎 Toxic narratives about «manly eating» keep men stuck in restrictive cycles. Let’s leave the food stereotypes in the past.
