How do doctors numb just the outside of the foot?
Watch the ultrasound monitor — those two flashing circles are a nerve sitting next to an artery and vein. That nerve is the sural nerve, which controls feeling on the outer ankle and foot. He injects anesthetic right around it to numb that area before moving forward with the PRP injection.
Seeing these structures in real time helps make sure the anesthetic goes exactly where it needs to.
Did you know a single nerve could control feeling in such a specific area?
