Happy Hand Therapy Week – Day 5! 🙌
This may look like a simple exercise, but it’s one of my favorites and a staple in hand therapy treatment for a wide variety of diagnoses.
This gentleman sustained a dislocation of his middle finger PIP joint and is now nearing the end of his rehabilitation journey. The progress he has made has been tremendous! 👏🏼
This activity challenges in-hand manipulation—the ability to move and control objects within one hand without assistance from the other hand. The fingers work together in a coordinated, natural way to shift objects from the fingertips to the palm and back again.
Think about reaching into your pocket and finding the right key without looking, or sorting through a handful of coins to pull out a quarter. These everyday tasks happen automatically—until a hand or wrist injury makes them difficult.
Exercises like this help restore the dexterity, coordination, and fine motor control needed for real-life activities that matter most.
Hand therapy isn’t just about getting stronger—it’s about getting back to doing the things you do every day, often without even thinking about them. 🤙🏼
Therapy can be functional, meaningful, and yes… even fun! 👋🏽
