While Sandy Godlewsky recovered from hip surgery at HCA Florida Englewood Hospital, her care team made sure she and her husband, Bob, could still celebrate a milestone 65 years in the making.

Our colleagues surprised the couple with flowers, balloons, sparkling juice, dessert and a card filled with heartfelt wishes. They even played ‘Lady in Red’ — the song Sandy and Bob have long called their own.

For Sandy, Bob and their family, the celebration was more than a kind gesture. It was a meaningful reminder that compassionate care goes beyond medicine. It means seeing the whole person, honoring their story and helping them feel cared for like family.

When Donald Dox Taylor suffered a stroke on New Year's Eve, his life changed in an instant.

A licensed massage therapist for 23 years, Donald suddenly lost the ability to move and struggled to speak as he called 911.

Donald began his recovery at HCA Florida West Marion Hospital Rehab Center, where he received physical, occupational and speech therapy. Throughout weeks of rehabilitation, he remained focused on one goal: getting his life back. With determination, hard work and the support of his care team, Donald regained his strength, independence and confidence.

Today, Donald is back to doing what he loves.

"I was determined to get my life back, so I pushed hard," Donald said. "HCA helped me get my life back."

After a devastating car accident late last year, 19-year-old patient Melanie arrived at 🏥 HCA Florida Kendall Hospital with a severe traumatic brain injury, including brain bleeding and swelling that required emergency surgery. As one of HCA Healthcare’s 12 Level I Trauma Centers, the HCA Florida Healthcare hospital was prepared with multidisciplinary teams to provide the advanced, lifesaving care Melanie needed.

During her 24-day hospital stay, Melanie underwent emergency brain surgery, was monitored in the trauma intensive care unit and began physical, occupational and speech therapy as part of her recovery. Months after being hospitalized, Melanie returned to visit her care team — this time able to speak, write and even take a few steps as she continued in her recovery journey.

"She is now making a miraculous recovery and is an extremely driven and strong young lady," said Dr. Michael Renda, trauma and critical care surgeon at HCA Florida Kendall Hospital.

Melanie’s story is a powerful reminder of why advanced trauma care matters and how compassionate, coordinated teams help patients through some of life’s most critical moments.

That's why we're proud to offer a music therapy program for our behavioral health patients, where they can discover new ways to express themselves and even showcase their own musical talents. We also welcome talented musicians from our community who generously share their gifts with our patients, including Davy Yue from NAMI Palm Beach County and James Gavrilos, President & CEO of the Education Foundation of Palm Beach County, and his barbershop quartet, "Permanent Detention". Recently, Board member Dr. Tunjarnika "Nika" Coleman shared an informative message with the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches about the power of reflection and self-worth.
Her reminder was simple, yet powerful: The mirror isn't there to judge you; it's there to remind you that you are capable, worthy, called, and enough.

Today, we celebrate an extraordinary nurse, mentor, and friend as Carole begins her well-earned retirement.
For 52 years, Carole has dedicated her life to nursing, including an incredible 31 years at HCA Florida JFK North Hospital. Throughout her career, she has touched countless patients' lives with her compassion, comforted families during their most vulnerable moments, and mentored generations of nurses and colleagues. Her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to excellence have left a lasting impact on our hospital and the community we are privileged to serve.
Carole has always led with grace, a caring heart, and a passion for helping others. While she may be retiring from nursing, the legacy she leaves behind will continue to inspire all of us for years to come.
To honor Carole's French Canadian roots, we celebrated on Canada Day with laughter and cherished memories. It was a fitting tribute to someone who has always made everyone around her feel like family.
