✍️ Today, we celebrated the power of words and self-expression. πŸ’¬

In honor of Juneteenth, team members gathered for a Drop-In Writing Clinic to reflect, write, and explore creative prompts centered on history, culture, and community. The event also helped spark ideas for our employee Juneteenth Poetry Contest. πŸ“

We’re proud to recognize Megan Lynam, RN III, Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), DAISY Award recipient, for the compassion and connection she brought to a young patient during a difficult hospital stay. 🌼

A colleague shared:

β€œWe have a young patient on the unit who has been in the hospital for some time. She is unable to speak due to her condition and has become very withdrawn. Megan used some of her time to try to engage this young patient who was also experiencing quite a bit of pain. Megan asked if she wanted to play cards. The patient agreed and so they sat together and played a few rounds of UNO. We had not seen this patient smile this much since she arrived. This little gesture of kindness and outreach is what extraordinary nursing care looks like.”

Employee Spotlight 🌟 Spend a moment with Shelby Fryberger!

As a patient care technician in the Emergency Department πŸš‘, Shelby knows that no two days are ever the same. Whether she's taking vital signs in triage or assisting during a critical emergency, she embraces the fast-paced nature of the ED while staying focused on what matters most: caring for patients πŸ’›.

Shelby brings more than clinical support to her role. As chairperson of the ED morale team, she is passionate about creating a positive environment for her coworkers through celebrations, employee recognition programs, and special events that help team members feel valued and appreciated. She is especially excited about Food Truck Friday 🚚🍴, an initiative that gives staff the chance to enjoy a local meal, step away for a break, and recharge during the workday.

Her passion for healthcare began in high school after watching her mother recover from a heart attack. Inspired by the care and compassion her mother received, Shelby knew she wanted a career where she could help others.

Outside of work, Shelby is a proud mom of six children and spends much of her time cheering them on at sporting events 🏈⚽, enjoying family movie nights 🎬🍿, and making memories together. She's also working toward becoming a licensed in-home baker πŸͺ and is currently perfecting her cinnamon roll recipes, much to the delight of her family and friends!

We had a wheel-y great day at the Bike Smart Safety Fest in May! πŸš²β˜€οΈ Thank you to everyone who joined us for this inaugural event! In partnership with Commute PA, we welcomed families for a fun day of bike safety education, helmet decorating, hands-on activities, and a bike rodeo course that helped young riders build confidence while practicing important safety skills.

❗ As kids spend more time riding this summer, here are three simple reminders for parents:

🚴 Always wear a properly fitted helmet. A helmet is the most important piece of bike safety equipment and should be worn on every ride, no matter how short. Make sure it sits level on your child's head, covers the forehead, and fits snugly, with the straps forming a "V" under each ear.

πŸ‘€ Stay alert and follow the rules of the road. Encourage kids to stop at stop signs, look left-right-left before crossing streets, use hand signals when appropriate, and stay aware of cars, pedestrians, and other obstacles around them.

πŸ”¦ Be seen. Bright-colored clothing, reflectors, and bike lights can help make riders more visible, especially during early morning or evening rides. The easier it is for drivers to see a cyclist, the safer everyone is.
