WE’RE OFFICIALLY OPEN TOMORROW!!!!

After a very long road, Steamtown Veterinary Center will officially open our doors tomorrow!!!

Beginning tomorrow, 08/22/2026, we’ll be here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

For anyone who is new to our page, Steamtown Veterinary Center is a privately owned veterinary hospital created to provide Northeastern Pennsylvania with emergency veterinary care when your pet is sick, injured, or needs immediate care.

We are not here to replace your regular veterinarian. We’re here to work alongside the amazing general practices in our community by providing emergency and urgent care, hospitalization, surgery, diagnostics, and continued care when your regular veterinarian may not be available.

Our hospital is equipped for:
• Emergency and urgent veterinary care
• 24 hour hospitalization and monitoring
• Emergency and urgent surgery
• Soft tissue surgery
• Dentistry, dental radiographs, and oral surgery
• Digital X-rays
• Ultrasound
• In house laboratory testing
• Oxygen support and critical care
• And more

For now, we will primarily be seeing dogs and cats. We may have veterinarians working who have a special interest or experience in exotic animal medicine. When those doctors are scheduled, we’ll let everyone know that exotic appointments or emergencies may be available during those specific shifts.

At this time, we do not have any exotic focused shifts scheduled, so for now, please consider us a dogs and cats only hospital unless we announce otherwise.

Starting tomorrow, if your pet needs us, we’re here, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Thank you to everyone who has followed along, shared our posts, called us, stopped by, encouraged us, and supported us throughout this entire process. The support from this community has meant so much to us.

We cannot wait to finally open our doors and start caring for the pets and families of Northeastern Pennsylvania.

We’re here if you need us!!!

💰 FUNDRAISING ALERT 💰

RAISE THE ROOF FOR THE ROOS!

Sometimes running a zoo and sanctuary means facing big, unexpected needs. Our barn roof, which shelters many of the animals here at Safari Farm Petting Zoo & Sanctuary, needs to be replaced and leaves us wondering if the animals know how to use a screw gun.
The estimate came in at $75,000.

After we all picked ourselves up off the floor, we realized that if we purchase the materials and do the labor ourselves, we can complete the project for about $25,000.

Which means there is a very real possibility that you may soon see us on the roof with a hammer while a kangaroo supervises the operation.

So we’re doing something fun to help raise the funds.

Safari Farm Experience Raffle

For the next month, we’ll be selling raffle chances for two incredible animal experiences:

Sloth Experience 🦥
Spend special one-on-one time meeting our sloth and learning all about these amazing animals. (the winner will also be the very first to meet Miss Sasha Sloth)
$50 per ticket (up to four people)

Kangaroo Experience 🦘
Get up close with our kangaroos for a once-in-a-lifetime encounter.
$50 per ticket (up to five people)

At the end of the two weeks we will randomly draw one winner for the Sloth Experience and one winner for the Kangaroo Experience.

If you’ve ever visited Safari Farm, brought your children here, attended a program, or simply love what we do, this is a wonderful way to support the animals while having a chance at an unforgettable experience.

Best case scenario:
The animals get a brand new roof.

Worst case scenario:
You get to watch us attempt roofing while a sloth silently judges our life choices.

Either way… the animals win. ❤️

Want to double your luck?
Tag the friends you’d bring with you if you win! We love seeing who wants to cuddle a kangaroo or meet a sloth.

Raffle opens at March 9, 2026 at 5:25 PM. Period ends March 22, 2026 at 5:25 PM.

Luzerne County dog owners, please don't forget! Beginning next week, March 9th, dog wardens will be canvassing neighborhoods checking to make sure all dogs are licensed for 2026. They will also be checking for valid rabies vaccination. This will continue through the summer months.

A license for a dog cost $10.80 for an individual under the age of 65, and $8.80 for a senior citizen over the age of 65 or those persons on disability (with proof).

Please get a license! The owner of a dog without a 2026 license can face a fine of up to $500.00 and up to $300 fine for those without valid rabies vaccination.

People have many options when purchasing a dog license. You can purchase one online at padoglicense.com.
