— According to the National Institutes of Health, nearly 1 in 3 U.S. adults experience insomnia, but sleep medications aren't always the best long-term solution.

Healthy sleep habits such as keeping a consistent bedtime, limiting screen time before bed and staying active during the day can help to improve sleep naturally.

🍉🍋🍓 Looking for an easy way to cut back on added sugar this summer and stay hydrated?

Nicole Clark, MS, RD, CNSC, LDN, nutrition support coordinator at Cape Cod Healthcare, suggests making simple beverage swaps. Replace traditional lemonade or sweetened iced tea with no-sugar-added versions or dilute your favorite sugary drink with flavored seltzer.

For an extra-refreshing twist, add seasonal fruits and vegetables such as watermelon, strawberries or cucumber, along with fresh herbs like basil or mint.

“It can help take plain seltzers up a notch for something different,” says Clark. “These small changes can help reduce added sugar while keeping drinks flavorful and enjoyable.”

Thank you to Barnstable Land Trust for hosting Stephanie Barth, epidemiologist with the VNA of Cape Cod, to help educate our community about tick safety and tick-borne illnesses.

As tick populations and tick-borne illnesses continue to rise across Cape Cod, learning how to prevent bites, identify early symptoms and know when to seek care is more important than ever. We appreciate everyone who attended and took the time to better protect themselves, their families and their pets while continuing to enjoy the outdoors.
