Your back, knee, and shoulder pain might be the same problem.

Most people treat each ache like it’s its own issue.

The knee hurts, so they focus on the knee.

The shoulder hurts, so they focus on the shoulder.

The back flares up, so they chase the back pain.

But your body doesn’t work in separate pieces.

When one area isn’t moving well, another area often picks up the slack.

That’s why pain can seem to “move around” or show up in multiple places.

The goal isn’t to chase symptoms.

The goal is to find the root cause.

If you’ve been dealing with pain in more than one area, send us a DM and let’s figure out what’s really driving it.

“I was basically crooked and couldn’t play tennis.”

That’s how one patient described life before coming to Meyer Chiropractic & Performance.

Today?

He’s back playing tennis at a competitive level.

Because pain isn’t just about pain.

It’s about losing the things you love.

The hobbies.

The competition.

The version of yourself that feels alive.

If pain is keeping you off the court, off the course, or out of the gym…

Let’s find the root cause.

DM us TENNIS to get started.

Cranky knees that don’t bend anymore?

Use this.

Most people think stiff knees are just part of getting older.

Our patients tell us that’s when they stop squatting down to play with their kids.

They avoid getting on the floor.

They start grabbing onto furniture every time they stand up.

And little by little, they lose confidence in what their body can do.

The problem usually isn’t just the knee itself.

It’s the way the knee is being forced to move because something else isn’t doing its job.

When we help patients improve how the entire leg moves together, their knees often start bending easier, with less stiffness and less discomfort.

And this is what we call the root cause.

If your knees feel stiff every time you squat, kneel, or get off the floor, send us a DM with the word KNEES and let’s figure out what’s really going on.

Pain relief is not the same thing as solving the problem.

That’s why so many people tell us:

“It felt better… until it came back.”

Sometimes the pain is being referred from somewhere else.

Sometimes the painful area is overloaded because another body part isn’t doing its job.

Either way, if nobody finds the reason it started, the cycle continues.

The question isn’t:

“Where does it hurt?”

The question is:

“Why does it hurt?”

And this is what we call the root cause.

DM us “ROOT” if you’re tired of the cycle.

Hey athletes dealing with back pain…

All he was told was to lift with my legs instead of my back.

But no one bothered to look at his hips.

This high school student came to Meyer Chiropractic and Performance because back pain was making him question what the future would look like.

He loves lifting and has desires to do a very physical job in the future.

And what kept him up at night wasn’t today’s pain.

It was wondering what the next 10, 20, 30 years would look like if he didn’t fix it now.

He tried PT.

He tried chiropractic care.

Eventually, he quit working out altogether.

The problem?

Everyone was focused on where the pain was.

Nobody looked at why his back kept getting overloaded in the first place.

Once we found the movement restriction at his hip, everything changed.

That’s what you’re seeing in this before and after video.

We dig deeper to find what’s actually driving the problem.

And this is what we call the root cause.

If back pain is keeping you from lifting, training, or chasing the future you want…

DM us and let’s figure out what’s really going on.

Root Cause Part 2

Sometimes the painful area IS the problem.

But the reason it’s hurting comes from somewhere else.

I recently worked with a patient who had both knee pain and back pain and was worried a knee replacement was in her future.

When we evaluated her, both areas were irritated.

But the bigger issue was her hip.

Because her hip wasn’t moving well, her knee and back were forced to take on more stress than they should.

Once we improved her hip mobility and strength, both started feeling better.

The takeaway?

If you’re only addressing where it hurts, you’re kissing the root cause.

And if you never address the why, the problem tends to come back.

What do we mean when we say “root cause”?

It usually shows up in one of two ways.

The first is when the pain isn’t actually coming from the place that hurts.

We worked with a college tennis player who had shoulder pain every time he served.

His MRI showed a labral tear and a rotator cuff tear from an old injury.

But when we evaluated him, his shoulder actually moved pretty well.

What we found was that his neck wasn’t moving properly and was referring pain into his shoulder every time he served.

Once we addressed his neck, his shoulder pain resolved and he was able to compete in a tournament last weekend.

Pain tells you where to look.

It doesn’t always tell you where the problem is.

That’s why finding the root cause matters.

Come back tomorrow for Part 2.
