The Ocean Charger project successfully developed a wireless inductive charging system tailored specifically for the harsh conditions of open waters. Led by Norwegian shipbuilder VARD alongside researchers at SINTEF and other green-energy maritime partners, the initiative aims to solve a fundamental barrier to marine electrification: the logistical need for battery-powered vessels to constantly return to port just to plug in.

Crows have remarkable abilities to recognize and remember threatening humans. In a long term University of Washington study, researchers captured and released several crows while wearing a distinctive mask; afterward, the birds repeatedly scolded and mobbed people wearing that mask, even years later.
Research also showed that crows that had never experienced the capture could learn to recognize the threatening face by observing other crows, including their parents. Long-term observations by researcher John Marzluff suggest that this learned response can persist for 17–18 years. Rather than literally “holding a grudge,” however, the behavior is better described scientifically as long-term threat recognition, memory and social learning.

Research shows 40Hz light and sound therapy can slow brain shrinkage and cognitive decline by helping the brain flush out toxic Alzheimer's proteins.

MIT researchers have spent nearly a decade investigating how 40 hertz sensory stimulation—flashing light and pulsing sound exactly 40 times per second—can boost the brain's natural gamma rhythms to combat Alzheimer's disease.

While initial mouse models showed stunning results, including preserved neural connections, improved memory, and a dramatic reduction in amyloid and tau protein buildup via the brain's glymphatic waste-disposal system, the critical question has been whether these benefits translate to humans.

Early clinical trials offer hope, demonstrating that patients with late-onset Alzheimer’s can safely use the synchronized audiovisual therapy at home to slow brain shrinkage and cognitive decline.

While the treatment was less effective for patients with early-onset cases in a small pilot, the results are promising enough that an MIT spinout, Cognito Therapeutics, has initiated a large-scale Phase III randomized trial. As a completely noninvasive therapy that bypasses the bloodstream, this sensory-based approach could pave a groundbreaking new pathway for neurodegenerative care.
