Exciting news! 🎉 I'm so happy to share that The Cottage Acupuncture and Wellness will make its home at Synergy Bodyworks beginning this August!

Ella McGuirk, DACM, LAc, MSTOM, is nationally licensed as a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine, and she has been practicing in California, but decided to bring her practice back to her home state of Maine.

I feel so fortunate that patience and focus have brought an evolution to Synergy Bodyworks that I've envisioned for years. Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine were top of my list, and Dr. Ella was the right person!

A few pics from our first Wellness Workshop and let's just say, there's no doubt that we will continue these! Wow! I'm totally blown away by each person who shared their expertise, participated in the day, and engaged thoughtfully with the presentations!

The feedback from participants was amazing, and I'm so encouraged by how it all came together. I can't wait to start planning for future events.

I'm already confirming guest presenters for the next Wellness Workshop, and can tell you that it will be a late-winter date. My goal is to make these valuable, AND fun!

Everyone took home a gift bag, and there were some amazing prizes given out by drawing. Refreshments were served while everyone got a chance to talk one-on-one with presenters. ✨ All around good vibes! ✨

Hi everyone! I'm Lisa, Owner of Synergy Bodyworks and Wellness! I've been in the fitness industry for about 20 years, and am more recently specializing in therapeutic massage, movement analysis and recommendations for mobility and strength.

If you have ever been massaged by me, then you have most likely heard me talk about fascia!

What is this stuff, and why is it so important?

Fascia is a type of gelatinous connective tissue that we have throughout our body - layers of it surround muscles, organs, bones and nerves! It looks a bit like a spider web, and has multi-directional movement.

How does it relate to how your body feels?

On a high level, fascia that is either damaged or restricted via activities, injury or inactivity can translate to pain and actually restrict muscles and joints from functioning as they are meant to.

Fascial health affects absolutely everyone! At the Wellness Workshop, I will discuss in much greater detail what fascia is, what affects fascial health and how to improve it.

My presentation will include ways that YOU can improve fascial health in your own, and how we can help improve it via bodywork sessions.

This will be one you won't want to miss!

Hannah Callender, Licensed Esthetician from Shine Salon in Westbrook, will be featured at the Synergy Wellness Workshop to talk with us about collagen loss over time, and how you can counteract the seemingly inevitable impacts.

Research indicates that collagen production begins to decline in your early to mid-20s with a decrease of about 1% per year after the age of 20.

By the age of 40, many people may have lost around 30% of their collagen. This decrease in collagen can result in reduced skin elasticity, increased wrinkles, and sagging.

There are natural approaches that you can easily implement with food and supplements, in order to support collagen production.

Meet Samantha Smith, featured presenter for the Synergy Wellness Workshop!

Sam is a Licensed Massage Therapist at Synergy Bodyworks, who is also certified in Therapeutic Stretching.

Therapeutic stretching facilities improvement in a person's physical and psychological well being, and addresses specific needs and goals for increasing one's mobility within joints.

This is done through assisting clients in passive stretching, where the practitioner moves your body through the motions, or active stretching, where we show you moves that you can bring home.

For our upcoming Wellness Workshop on October 19th, Sam will be demonstrating many of the stretches that are highly relevant to today's lifestyle challenges. Tech neck is a widespread problem for many people, as well as desk-job related poor posture, repetitive-motion activity tightness, and the like.

Neck and upper back constantly bothering you? Do you find that your shoulders roll in? Sam will show neck, back, chest and hip stretches *and* provide a handout that describes each stretch you perform, so you can repeat them at home! Her stretch session will also include important safe-stretch limits and info so that you get the most of your home stretching, without getting hurt.

Wear comfy clothes so we call all stretch together!

Meet Lisa! Lisa is one of the presenters at the Synergy Wellness Workshop (10/19/24, 9-11:30a).

Her research into toxins and how they affect our daily life, and long-term health, revealed some concerning data that's important to know.

According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), only 5-10% of cancers can be attributed to genetics‼️; the other 90-95% are caused by environment and lifestyle. 💥

In the US, there are over 86,000 chemicals in use, including approximately 62,000 that were grandfathered into the Toxic Substances Control Act and were never safety tested. 💥

The bottom line concern for us? The CDC has found more than 200 man made chemicals in our bodies, including in newborn babies. Oxidative stress and the toxic load in your body may be the missing link to why you aren’t achieving your health goals and are struggling with chronic health conditions, despite “doing all the right things.”

This is a discussion, with Q&A time, that cannot be missed!

Lisa is a Registered Nurse, former health educator, and former Paramedic. She most recently added Certified Functional Nutrition Consultant to her health expertise and has done a lot of research into toxins and their effects on our health.
