Ohio is seeing an increase in reported cases of Cyclosporiasis, an intestinal illness caused by a parasite that can spread through contaminated food or water.

People who become ill typically develop symptoms 2–14 days after exposure. While some people may not have symptoms, others may experience watery diarrhea and frequent bowel movements.

A few simple food safety steps can help reduce your risk:
🍎 Wash your hands with soap and water before and after handling fresh produce.
🥬 Rinse all fruits and vegetables thoroughly under running water.
🥒 Scrub firm produce, such as melons and cucumbers, with a clean produce brush.
🍅 Remove any bruised or damaged areas before preparing or eating produce.
❄️ Refrigerate cut, peeled, or cooked fruits and vegetables within two hours.

Safe food handling is one of the best ways to help prevent foodborne illness and keep you and your family healthy!
