help athletes prevent injuries. How to help them recover so injuries don’t reoccur. And the right way to build strength and conditioning. The program also includes a comprehensive team of specialists completely dedicated to the care and management of concussions. We work closely with parents, coaches, Athletic Trainers and primary care physicians to ensure every athlete receives age-appropriate care. Our goal is to give every athlete the opportunity to perform at the highest level. Early treatment to prevent recurring injuries. Sports Medicine at Nationwide Children’s Hospital includes a staff of doctors, athletic trainers and physical therapists. All are trained to provide age-appropriate patient care. In addition to treatment, we partner with parents and coaches to focus on injury prevention, conditioning and age-appropriate activities.

Why should I use ice and not heat on my injury?

Ice is the best way to prevent additional swelling to a new injury. Heat applied to a new injury will only increase swelling to the area and increase recovery time.

Ice should be applied directly to the area for twenty minutes and off for sixty minutes. Do not sleep with an ice bag on an injury.
