Are you actually using your core the right way?
Most people think “core” means sucking your stomach in, but it’s actually the opposite.
✅ Step 1: Breathe into your belly.
Imagine there’s a balloon inside your stomach. As you inhale, the balloon expands in all directions; front, sides, and back. As you exhale, it gently deflates. Your chest and shoulders shouldn’t be doing all the work.
✅ Step 2: Brace.
After breathing into your belly, tighten your abdominal muscles as if you’re preparing for someone to lightly tap you in the stomach. This creates intra-abdominal pressure, stabilizes your spine, and allows you to properly use your core.
When done correctly, this:
• Reduces stress on your low back
• Improves stability
• Increases power during lifts
Try this the next time you’re in the gym or even when picking something up off the ground. Small changes in how you breathe can make a big difference in how your body performs
