For the first of August, since it's , I thought I'd throw this to y'all.
It's a little bit of a gut punch, no? I hope none of you read this as "well, that's one more thing I failed at, one more way I didn't live up to expectations," but rather as encouragement. What I mean is: you are worthy of EXCEPTIONAL care, and EXCEPTIONAL health.
Read that again: you are worthy.
Our healthcare system is deeply broken, for patients and clinicians alike. Clinicians want to spend time with you, want to learn about you and your specific concerns and obstacles to help fine-tune your care, but the system requires them to get in and out of the exam room; it rewards productivity of quantity, not quality. It, frankly, sucks, and is why so many are leaving the caring professions, because it's exhausting, and its not the reason any of us got into healthcare.
And from the patient perspective, at best, it often leaves us feeling lost, unseen, unheard. It's also exhausting, and also why so many just give up and deal with things as they are.
But. The good news is that many of us are fighting back, and demanding better. We're stepping outside the traditional systems that serve NO ONE and demanding the best care possible; for our patients, and for ourselves.
And when one of us does it, it reminds those around us of their worth, and before we know it, there is a groundswell of change.
I hope you'll join us.
Because you are so deeply, inherently worthy.
