Working at height or in confined spaces comes with significant risks, where the consequences of an incident can be severe.

While training, risk assessments and safe systems of work are essential, ensuring employees are medically fit to carry out these roles safely is just as important.

Occupational health assessments help identify whether an individual has any medical conditions that could affect their ability to work safely, such as problems with balance, certain cardiovascular conditions, uncontrolled epilepsy or severe claustrophobia. They also provide employers with reassurance that their workforce is fit for these safety-critical tasks.

At Granite Occupational Health, we carry out Working at Height and Confined Space medicals to help businesses protect their employees, meet industry requirements and maintain a safe working environment.

Monica and I loved sharing our Granite OH brand refresh with everyone earlier this week. However, this wouldn’t have been possible without the support, guidance and amazing creative geniuses at Prospect 13

We would like to thank each and every member of the team at P13, especially Cerri and Ashleigh for their patience in working with us as the new brand was brought to life.

We would also like to thank Matt Smith and the team at Intro Creative Group for once again bringing our brand ideas to life.

Also, Cupcakes by Jen for the most delicious cupcakes that have been completely devoured and loved by everyone who was lucky enough to try one.

All aboard! 🛤️

Monica was back at Alford Valley Community Railway on Saturday, carrying out medical assessments for the volunteer train drivers.

We’re delighted to support the Railway by helping ensure its drivers are fit and well, allowing them to continue providing a fantastic experience for visitors.

A big thank you to everyone at Alford Valley Community Railway for the warm hospitality and, of course, the excellent coffee and delicious banana bread! ☕🍌

We look forward to seeing you all again soon.

Today, we’re introducing the new Granite Occupational Health 💜

For nine years, we’ve been helping businesses prioritise the health of their greatest asset: their people.

We were founded on the belief that Occupational Health should feel personal, responsive and straightforward, and that when support is needed, you should have a team you can genuinely lean on.

As Granite OH has grown, our brand needed to grow with it.

The new Granite Occupational Health reflects the business we are today. We are confident in our expertise, committed to our service standards and still focused on delivering Occupational Health with a human touch.

In the video below, Monica Walker and Jen McHugh share more about where Granite OH began, how the business has evolved and what the future holds.

Watch the video to hear the story behind our new brand.

Some things are about to change 💜

At the heart of Granite Occupational Health are the people and expertise that make us who we are.

But on 27th July, you’ll see Granite OH in a new light.

We’ve been listening, growing and looking at how we can better reflect who we are today and where we’re going next. A new chapter is coming.

Night shift workers are essential to many businesses, helping organisations meet demand and keep operations running around the clock 🌙

From healthcare professionals and transport personnel to those working in hospitality, manufacturing and retail, night shift workers play a vital role across a wide range of industries.

However, working through the night can bring unique health challenges, including fatigue, disrupted sleep patterns and potential longer-term health impacts if not managed effectively.

At Granite Occupational Health, we offer night shift health assessments and expert advice to help employers support the health, safety and wellbeing of their workforce while ensuring they remain fit for work.

Our very own Jen McHugh will be heading to Chicago later this year to jump (or more likely be pushed) out of a plane at 14,000 ft! 🪂

She is taking on this terrifying challenge to raise money for two brilliant charities that are close to our hearts, Pancreatic Cancer UK and Inverurie Community Recovery.

Pancreatic Cancer UK supports people and families going through one of the most frightening cancer diagnoses, while Inverurie Community Recovery Group provides a safe, supportive space for people in our local community who are rebuilding their lives through recovery.

Whatever fear Jen might experience, it doesn’t compare to the challenges faced by the people who rely on the support of those incredible charities.

If you would like to donate to Jen’s cause, please visit her JustGiving page and select the charity you would like to support https://www.justgiving.com/team/jen-mchugh-skydive.

9 years of Granite Occupational Health 🤍

Founded in 2017, Granite OH was built to bring Occupational Health back to something more human, responsive, and grounded in the realities of work and wellbeing.

Nine years on, that hasn’t changed.

We’re still an independent team supporting employers and employees across Scotland, helping people stay safe and well, and helping businesses remain compliant in the process.

We’ve grown since those early days in Aberdeen, Inverness and Falkirk, but we’ve stayed deliberately steady in how we work. A strong team focused on Occupational Health across industries from construction to offshore and everything in between.

The focus has always been on staying proactive, practical and patient, keeping communication clear, and never losing the personal approach that set us apart in the first place.

To every client, partner, and colleague who has been part of the journey so far, thank you for the trust.

We can’t wait to see what we’ll achieve in the next chapter.
