School starts in a few weeks. If last spring ended rough, this window matters.

Three signs your teen may need more than weekly therapy:

1. Weekly sessions help, but the hard days still outnumber the good ones.
2. Mornings end in shutdown, and school refusal is creeping back.
3. You are managing crises between appointments.

Our IOP treats depression and anxiety in youth ages 10–25, with group, family, and parenting therapy several days a week. Most clients keep their individual therapist while they are with us. A couple of months of more support now can change how the school year starts.

Some seasons are louder than others. We took a quiet few weeks here while the summer groups were in full swing.

Here is what is ahead: a new episode of Look for the Helpers, back-to-school support for parents and teens, and some faces you know.

Strong doesn’t mean silent.

July is BIPOC Mental Health Month. In a lot of families and cultures, mental health is the thing you don’t talk about. You keep it in the family. You stay strong. You handle it at home.

But carrying it alone was never strength, and asking for help was never weakness.

Care that actually works meets your whole story. Your family, your culture, your language, in the room instead of left at the door. That isn’t a special accommodation. It’s just good care.

Belonging isn’t a month. It’s every kid who walks in and doesn’t have to explain themselves. That’s the work, all year.

If your family is carrying something, you’re not alone. (805) 497-0605.

“My kid is not bad.” 🎧 New on Look for the Helpers · link in bio.

If your kid holds it together all day and falls apart the second they get home, Deanna Dow, PhD has a kinder explanation than “bad behavior.” A neurodivergent kid spends the whole day masking, making eye contact, managing the noise, holding their feelings in. By the time they’re home with their safe person, the tank is empty.

She walks through what gets missed about autism and ADHD, why a diagnosis can feel like relief, and the line that sets families free: your brain is wired differently, and that’s not a problem.

For any parent, teacher, or clinician who loves a neurodivergent kid.

New Volume — Vol. 07 · No. 01

A new month, a new volume. Same place to begin.

We start where we always do: you’re not alone.

July is deep summer. Long days, loose schedules, and for a lot of families, more together time than any other month. Some of it is golden. Some of it is hard. We’ll be here for both, right here in the Conejo Valley.

Some of what’s coming this volume:
→ The podcast, weekly. Dr. Deanna Dow is first.
→ The Fourth, Gently
→ Mid-Summer Anchors
→ Belonging, All Month Long
→ The Post-Grad Summer
→ Before School Starts
→ A Face You Know

Follow along this month. And if mid-summer already feels like a lot, support is here.

End of Volume 06.

That’s June. We talked about summer and the nervous system, what trauma really looks like, what IOP actually is, and the other side of graduation. We welcomed Adelina home, honored the dads, and brought the podcast back, weekly, with Janet, Harsha, Dr. Brittany Booth, and Maurissa.

Thank you for reading along. The structure that helps a kid through summer is the same thing that helps a month make sense: a few reliable anchors, repeated.

New volume begins July 1. As always — you’re not alone.
