As women, many of us went into motherhood with a history of an eating disorder, or at the very least, a complicated relationship with food and our bodies.

A lot of us did a great deal of work on healing that before starting a family. For others, the issues only became more apparent for you later on.

Either way, please know that if you are a mom and you are struggling with how you relate to food and your body, you are not a failure. You are not a bad mom. It doesn’t mean you are doomed to raise children who also will struggle. AND you are worthy of healing. ❤️

Thanks SHAPE for sharing my thoughts in this story about Zosia Mamet’s reflections on her eating disorder journey: “When others share their experiences with mental illness, it also does the very important job of helping to lift the shame and the stigma for so many people."

"This entire 24-year battle has been me fighting for myself," she wrote.

Happy for my comments to be included in this HuffPost article: ““I think the photo shows that women’s bodies are uniquely capable and magical, especially in how we grow babies and give birth,” she said. “Our bodies’ diversity and perceived imperfections make them even more beautiful.”

Kelly Hughes is the first model in the magazine issue's 58-year history to pose showing her cesarean section scar.

As moms, it’s so easy to feel like we’re failing all the time. We easily fall into the trap of comparing ourselves. When we compare ourselves to the moms around us, we often assume our kids must be doing the same thing.

Trust me when I tell you that your kids don’t care about what you weigh. They think you are pretty amazing just because you’re their mama.

And, one of the best things you can do to ensure your kids develop a healthy relationship with food and their bodies is to heal your own. Please reach out if you want to see how I can help.

Repost • On this World Eating Disorders Action Day, we recognize that eating disorders do not discriminate between all ages, races, genders, abilities, ethnicities, income levels, body shapes/sizes, and sexual orientations. This serious mental illness affects approximately 9% of the US population, with someone losing their life to an eating disorder every 52 minutes. We are proud to stand alongside , , and the , so that not one more life is lost to this insidious disease. .

Swipe➡️➡️• The body is merely a vessel to carry purpose. Not the purpose itself.

If all we see of people are bodies and judge them by those alone, we miss out on a whole lot of people and a whole lot of purpose.

For the body is merely a vessel, not the being.
So it cannot speak for the results,
Of a life well lived or a life grown through it.

Unless you limit yourself
To just that.

One of the places people seem to get stuck in eating disorder recovery is post-treatment when they go back to “normal” life but still feel mired in behaviors. I’m here to tell you this is OK.

The thing is, eating disorder treatment is not a one-size-fits-all. If your treatment experience didn’t leave you feeling free from your eating disorder, that doesn’t mean something is wrong with you. It might mean that you need a new or different kind of treatment.

I wouldn’t be doing this work if I didn’t wholeheartedly believe that everyone (yes everyone) can recover. If you want to find out how I can help, reach out today --> www.carlakorn.com/contact/

Bear with me because I understand that this wasn’t a conscious choice. Your eating disorder developed as a way to help you get by when you had no other way to do so.

Along the way, it probably promised lots of things: love, acceptance, safety, fulfillment, accomplishment. But there came a point where you realized the very things it promised are the same things that now feel even further out of reach.

Taking steps towards recovery and away from your eating disorder can be scary, but recovery is actually the path towards those things you value and want for yourself. And you deserve so much more than your eating disorder. If you are ready, let’s chat about how I can help: --> www.carlakorn.com/contact/

One of the greatest fallacies that diet culture perpetuates is that the longer you can go without food, the better and more virtuous person you are.

Newsflash: eating is a basic human need. There is nothing brave or admirable about depriving your body of the basic sustenance it needs to survive.

On the contrary, taking the time to have a snack or meal when the rest of the world is “too busy” or wrapped up in diet culture to eat is the true act of bravery, self-care, self-love.

Need help learning how to be kinder to yourself and remind yourself on a regular basis that you do in fact deserve to eat? I’d love to help. Reach out to schedule a free 15-minute consultation —> https://www.carlakorn.com/contact/
