Dieffenbachia plant care is so easy and rewarding that it’s become one of my favorite houseplants. 🌿

I had no idea how much joy I was in for when saltycleveland gifted me these Dieffenbachia center-cut chonks, but I’ve been grateful ever since.

This is Dieffenbachia ‘Snow’, and it’s a surprisingly easy care houseplant if you give it the basics it needs!

I’ve potted this Dieffenbachia up twice since rooting it because the roots grow like CRAZY and they need to… Those roots have a massive plant to support!

If you have the space and want a giant statement houseplant, Dieffenbachia might be one of the best choices. They can grow into seriously impressive plants without requiring a ton of complicated care.

One important note: Dieffenbachia is toxic. The sap can irritate your skin and cause a rash, so be careful when pruning, propagating, or handling damaged stems.

And keep this plant away from pets. If eaten, Dieffenbachia can cause drooling, vomiting, oral irritation, and significant pain.

But as far as easy houseplant care goes? This one is a winner.

Dieffenbachia Snow plant care:
Bright indirect light
Water when the top 1/4 of the soil dries out
Plenty of room to grow

I know plants are the obvious answer for me…

But for real, we literally can’t survive without them.

I don’t make the rules. I just care for the plants.

Plant care really is a basic human need… and especially when they’re variegated 🤷🏻‍♀️

🚨important to know is that dieffenbachia sap is toxic and can cause a reaction in your skin. I’ve worked with this plant enough times to know how my skin reacts which is why I’m not wearing gloves, but you may want to 🚨

When it comes to a sentimental jade plant, it’s about so much more than the plant.

It’s about the people who cared for it before you.

The memories.

The stories.

The legacy you’re continuing every time you care for it.

This 50 year old jade plant has been passed down through generations of the same family. And when I first saw it, I knew it was well loved, but not getting the care it needed.

It needed some pruning, a soil refresh, and a little help understanding what it needs to thrive.

I know how stressful it can be when you know your plant needs something, but you just can’t figure out what.

That’s why these are some of my favorite jobs.

I get to help preserve the love, the legacy, and the memories attached to these plants.

And I get to teach you how to properly care for your jade plant so that it can keep growing and hopefully be passed down for many, many more generations.

This has been a fun houseplant experiment!

I’m surprised that the pothos didn’t root faster and that there is still a node that hasn’t started growing yet… but over all, this is a good result!

My pothos care recommendation is bright indirect light and water when the top 1/2 of the soil is dry.

Pothos grows faster with more light, so perhaps moving it to an even brighter spot might make that one node take off… sadly light real estate is at a premium around here!

I see a ton of pothos with long strands that have no leaves. And it’s almost impossible for any leaves to regrow.

The best way to bring it back to beautiful and bushy is a heavy pruning. The crown of the plant will start to push new growth almost immediately and within a few months your pothos is going to be on its way to looking healthy and beautiful!

And don’t forget, while pothos is a plant that will take some neglect - watering when the top 1/2 of the soil is dry will prevent those oldest leaves to die in the first place.

Plant rehabs are the most rewarding!

Plant care is not hard but it is specific and when plants get the care they need they’ll reward and delight!

With all the roots this monstera had I knew it was going to be a treat to watch grow!

Soon it’s going to need to be pruned and these enormous fenestrated leaves are going to make for an incredible climbing plant! I can’t!!
