Nurse Midwives care for women throughout their life cycle. This includes both well women gynecological care including pap tests, HPV screening, breast exams, family planning, contraceptive management and also obstetrical care which includes care during pregnancy, labor and after childbirth. The midwives of Westshore Midwifery Associates deliver at both St. John Medical Center and Fairview Hospital
. Certified nurse midwives view pregnancy as a normal process. Midwives assist women during labor and birth while focusing on prevention and education. The focus is family centered care while encouraging women to participate in the decision making process. The use of technology and intervention are used only when appropriate. Whether women desire a natural child birth, an epidural, a vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) delivery, a waterbirth or narcotic pain management, our group of midwives will be supportive. The midwives of Westshore Midwifery Associates have years of experience assisting women in experiencing the benefits of warm water immersion for labor and birth. More recently in August of 2009, the midwives were instrumental in the opening of the Holistic Birth Center at St. John Medical Center, the only birth center in northern Ohio.
