How can throwers protect their shoulders from injury?

Proper conditioning and a thorough warm-up are key to maintaining shoulder strength and flexibility. Athletes should also avoid overuse by monitoring throwing volume with pitch counts and allowing adequate recovery between sessions.

When returning from an off-season or injury, a gradual throwing progression is essential. Our interval throwing program helps athletes safely rebuild strength and return to throwing.

If you're experiencing shoulder pain from throwing, reach out to us via 630-324-0402 or [email protected] to schedule a consultation.

Advancing patient care requires more than innovation in the operating room—it requires education at every step of the journey.

Dr. Chudik recently had the opportunity to present to his colleagues in IBJI’s Physical Therapy department on the INTACT™ Total Shoulder Replacement, a groundbreaking rotator cuff–sparing shoulder replacement technique that he helped develop alongside eight other orthopaedic surgeons. Designed to preserve critical shoulder anatomy, this approach offers an alternative to traditional shoulder replacement by avoiding disruption of the rotator cuff and supporting a more efficient recovery process.

During the presentation, Dr. Chudik walked his colleagues through the surgical technique step-by-step before reviewing the rehabilitation protocol developed specifically for this new approach. The discussion included post-operative considerations such as sling usage, recovery progression, physical therapy milestones, return-to-activity guidelines, and other factors that help physical therapists confidently guide patients through recovery.

As new advancements in orthopaedic care emerge, education remains essential. From the initial consultation and surgery to rehabilitation and return to daily activities, every member of the care team plays an important role in a patient’s recovery.

What’s the difference between a partial and full rotator cuff tear?

A partial rotator cuff tear means the tendon is damaged but not completely torn through. Symptoms can vary depending on the extent of the injury.

A full rotator cuff tear means the tendon is completely torn and may require surgical repair to restore strength and function, depending on your goals and lifestyle.

The key takeaway: early evaluation matters. Shoulder injuries don’t always improve on their own, and addressing them at the right time can make a major difference in recovery and outcomes.

If your shoulder has been injured or you’re unsure of next steps, reach out to us directly to determine the best course of care.
