Through our collaboration with United Way Broward, we distributed 300 bags of fresh produce and nonperishable food to caregivers at Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital and our outpatient locations.

Each bag included a heartfelt thank-you note recognizing caregivers for their dedication, hard work and compassion to our patients and communities. 🌟

Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital has "hired" the first-in-Florida chemo compounding robot. 🤖

As the first hospital in Florida to implement the Loccioni APOTECAchemo robotic compounding system, our Cancer Center is advancing safety and precision in chemotherapy preparation. The technology uses continuous gravimetric verification, weighing ingredients throughout the process to ensure accurate medication and diluent measurements.

That added verification provides an important safety layer beyond visual inspection alone, helping prevent underdosing or overdosing.

In addition to patient safety benefits, the robotic system is expected to improve safety for pharmacy caregivers. Because chemotherapy and other hazardous medications can pose occupational exposure risks, reducing direct manual handling during preparation is a major advantage.

“We are the first cancer center in Florida to bring this innovative tool to serve our patients in the infusion center,” said Zeina Nahleh, MD, Vice Chief, Cancer Institute and Regional Chair of Hematology/Oncology at Cleveland Clinic in Florida. Dr. Nahleh is also the Medical Director of the Maroone Cancer Center at Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital.

According to Zeina Nahleh, MD, the system has already helped reduce patient wait times while improving efficiency and safety in the pharmacy.

The robot has been named “Cathey” in honor of a philanthropist whose donation helped fund improvements in the chemotherapy infusion area at Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital.
