🧠 Understanding the function of a behavior changes everything.

Repetitive behaviors in Autism often serve a self-regulatory function and, in many cases, should be supported and accommodated.

OCD compulsions serve a different purpose. They are maladaptive behaviors used to manage anxiety and discomfort, reinforced by short-term relief. Tailored Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is the treatment that is proven to help.

This is why careful assessment and clear differentiation are essential.
